A little while ago I met up with a close friend for a date around Yeouido. We had dinner and chatted about this and that, and honestly the time just flew by~
Not ready to say goodbye yet, we decided to go for round two at an izakaya, which is how we ended up at Robadayakki Sodam Yeouido Branch. The place is full-on Japanese-local izakaya vibes, so it felt like having a drink on a trip to Japan, pairing skewers and grilled fish with our drinks. ♥

Robadayakki Sodam Yeouido Branch is near the KBS annex — come out of Exit 1 of Saetgang Station or Exit 5 of Yeouido Station! It's open daily 17:00-01:30, parking is available, and you can book through Naver Reservation.
There were two doors you could enter from — this one was the back door, so we walked straight around to the front door instead haha.

Inside, Robadayakki Sodam Yeouido Branch is dim with soft lighting, cozy like a traditional Japanese izakaya. ✨ There's a wooden dat-tsuke counter, tables where you can eat more privately, and a group room too, so it looked like a good spot for a company dinner as well.
The array of skewers laid out in front of the counter seats looked so fresh it was basically theft-worthy ....♥
That full-on Japanese-local izakaya feeling is insane. Seriously, what is this romance~ I loved the dat-tsuke counter so much we sat right there.
Why we ordered the assorted skewers and grilled atka mackerel
Originally I just meant to have some skewers, but they were grilling fish right in front of us and it looked so good hahaha. There was no way I wasn't ordering it.
I was going to order skewers one by one, but then I wanted this one and that one too, so I figured the assorted skewer platter made more sense haha. Between the assorted skewers and a grilled fish, I went with grilled atka mackerel after some deliberation! Plus soju.
Wow, even the free side dish was amazing. Fried egg on a hot plate, and we cheers'd with soju right off the bat hahahahaha.
On the right is our grilled atka mackerel. The size of the fish here is seriously something.... huge and chunky 👍
Side note — there was a fridge storing fish off to the side of the counter seats, and the fish were so big it was kind of scary hahahahahaha. (Mosaic added just in case.)
Watching the grill from the counter seat: is it smoky?
They were grilling our atka mackerel and assorted skewers right there 🩷 Being at the dat-tsuke counter meant we got to watch it happen in real time, which was part of the fun. There's a lot of smoke, but the ventilation hood over the grill was strong enough that it never stung our eyes.

The assorted skewer platter at Robadayakki Sodam Yeouido Branch comes with chicken skewers, shrimp, ginkgo-and-garlic skewers, bacon-tomato skewers, and more. Ordering the assorted platter was such a good call — every single one was delicious!!
Getting to try lots of different kinds — genuinely, I highly recommend the assorted skewer platter.
How big is the grilled atka mackerel, and how does it taste?
Hahahahaha, just look at the size of that grilled atka mackerel.. an overwhelming sight. We didn't even line our hands up next to it for scale, and it's still shockingly huge.
I gently flaked off the nicely browned fish with my chopsticks, and it was still steaming, with a moist texture and flesh that came apart softly. It had that smoky char flavor like a skewer, which puts it up there with any dedicated grilled-fish restaurant.
The soju was going down way too easily..
Finishing the night with seafood ramyeon
Since this was round two and everything was so good, we ended up finishing with hangover-curing seafood ramyeon too hahaha ha.. our hard-working little piggy selves 🐽

Robadayakki Sodam Yeouido Branch had us tipsy on the Japanese izakaya atmosphere, and even more tipsy on the assorted skewers, grilled fish, and seafood ramyeon — total overindulgence issue 😵💫 — but we had a genuinely fun date chatting comfortably over a soju or two(?).
