Haeundae sashimi date with dry ice plating: Haneobuui Godeungeosarang
In short
Haneobuui Godeungeosarang Haeundae is a mackerel and horse mackerel sashimi restaurant on the second floor near Haeundae Station in Busan. On a date visit, the writer ordered the mackerel and horse mackerel sashimi for two plus grilled mackerel, and the dry-ice plating, the white kimchi pairing, and the mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and mackerel bong-sushi all arrived without any fishy smell. With tall partitions between tables, baby chairs and a group room, Haneobuui Godeungeosarang Haeundae suits couples, families and larger parties alike.

Today I'm sharing my review of a Haeundae spot I visited during a trip to Busan — Haneobuui Godeungeosarang (한어부의고등어사랑). Sashimi is all about freshness, right?! Mackerel especially loses its nutty flavor and turns oily and mushy if it sits even a little too long ㅠㅠ This place is known for keeping that freshness alive in every bite. Let's get into the review.

How far is it from Haeundae Station?
Exterior view

It's close to Haeundae Station and easy to find. It's on the 2nd floor, and climbing the stairs I saw mackerel illustrations everywhere, true to the restaurant's name — I thought, ah, this owner really means it haha.
Inside the restaurant: partitions, group room and baby chairs
The interior was clean, and the partitions gave it a private, cozy feel!
There's one thing I really care about when I eat — I like quiet places!! Bars can be loud and that's fine, but for meals I want to eat quietly, you know..!? This calm atmosphere was exactly my taste.
Proof you can eat freshly caught sashimi here!
There's a group room too! Great for reserving in advance for company dinners, gye (savings club) meetings, family gatherings, family meals, and all kinds of get-togethers.
There are window seats and baby chairs too, so it seems great to visit with kids.
This is the table we were seated at! The atmosphere was great~
Menu and prices, and what we ordered

The food menu board

Drinks / beverages What we ordered: Mackerel sashimi + horse mackerel sashimi for 2
The set table and side dishes

The side dishes were laid out neatly, so pretty and delicious — setting the tone before the main dish even arrives is exciting ㅠㅠ

Dip the buckwheat noodles in first
A nicely browned kimchi pancake and a salad loaded with vegetables. Eating a bite at a time — vegetables to prevent that bloated feeling~~
Mulhoe and mackerel bong-sushi

Lightly seared with a torch, so you could taste the nutty richness of the fat — I loved it.

The mulhoe (cold spicy raw fish soup) was spicy-sweet and refreshing♬ Certified best mulhoe in Haeundae!
Mackerel and horse mackerel sashimi: how does it taste the first time?

The main event arrives. The plating is so upscale I could scream.
Whoa, suddenly I felt like a mountain spirit,,, the dry ice smoke came drifting right at me haha, I was a little startled but a pro doesn't get flustered.
This was my first time ever eating mackerel and horse mackerel sashimi!! I only started eating sashimi recently :) It melted in my mouth.

First, I dipped a piece in chojang (vinegar-chili sauce). Okay, certified best horse mackerel sashimi in Busan.
My boyfriend ate his with soy sauce and wasabi. Okay, certified best mackerel sashimi in Busan.

Wrapped in seaweed with white kimchi (baek-kimchi) and wasabi on top for a bite. You have to eat it with white kimchi, it's SO good. The tangy kimchi and the clean, mild horse mackerel sashimi are a great combo.
I tried it wrapped in just seaweed, then with white kimchi and chives — genuinely soft and delicious. And you could really tell how fresh it was. No fishy smell at all!

They also serve sushi rice — top it with white kimchi, wasabi, ssamjang, and mackerel sashimi for a bite. Yum yum.
Adding grilled mackerel to the order
I prefer grilled fish, so I ordered grilled mackerel on top! Grilled at high heat in a wood-fired oven, it was crispy outside and juicy inside! No fishy smell on the grilled mackerel either — loved it!

One bite and that nutty, savory flavor hit right away ♬

We ordered rice right away and piled it on top~~
After the meal: takeout products on sale
Ta-da.. we're supposed to have nothing to be ashamed of, but honestly, we left not a single piece of sashimi (sorry for the pun). My partner patting his belly means it was delicious.

On your way out, check by the door — you can buy wood-fired grilled mackerel, salted mackerel, pomfret, and sikhye (sweet rice drink) :)
