On a rainy day like today, you just crave hot noodle soup, right? But while I was looking for a noodle soup that could also pack in plenty of protein, Eonyang Dak Kalguksu caught my eye! One bite in, I officially declared it a Tongdosa must-visit restaurant. Let me walk you through why.

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch — address: 6 Tongdosa-ro, Habuk-myeon, Yangsan-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, hours 11:00–21:00 (last order 20:00), dedicated parking available.
How to reach Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch, and where to park
Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is about 3 minutes by car from the Tongdosa parking lot entrance, and also 3 minutes from the Tongdosa IC.

These days parking is a worry wherever you go, but there's a dedicated lot for the restaurant right behind it, so you can park with total ease. It's close to Tongdosa, so it made a great stop for a meal after sightseeing and before hopping on the highway.
Inside the restaurant on a late Sunday evening

I visited late on a Sunday evening and was surprised at how many people were already there eating. True to a recently-opened restaurant, the interior was spacious and completely fresh-feeling!

Aprons were a given, but there were even baby chairs, so I thought it'd be a fine spot for a family meal out. The tables were spaced generously too, so it never felt cramped — a comfortable meal all around!
Menu and order: dak kalguksu 10,000 won, chewy mandu 5,500 won

We ordered two servings of Eonyang Dak Kalguksu's signature dish, dak kalguksu (₩10,000), and chewy mandu (₩5,500). Eating out isn't cheap these days, but considering it comes with chicken in it, the price didn't feel like much of a burden at all.
Side dishes and the self-serve kimchi bar

Kimchi is a must with kalguksu, right? There are mild and spicy versions, and the staff brings out the spicy kimchi by default, so

if you want the mild kimchi or pickled radish, you can help yourself at the self-serve bar.
How the perilla-seed broth with half a chicken tastes
Soon the star of the show arrived — dak kalguksu! The visual alone is no joke, right? The noodle soup comes piled high in a big bowl, and right on top sits a full half chicken.

Unlike a regular kalguksu, the big chunk of whole chicken on top makes the whole thing look overwhelming right from the start!

I took a sip of the broth, and just from the look of it — thick and rich — I could tell it was totally my style!

They say the broth at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu, this Tongdosa favorite, has perilla seeds in it, giving it a nutty, deep flavor.

At first the nutty flavor comes through, but the more you eat, the richer it gets, you know? It's not sharp or intense — more clean yet deep, that's the defining trait!
With regular anchovy kalguksu, you'd expect a light flavor, but this dak kalguksu is definitely heavier, isn't it?

You can really taste the deep flavor unique to chicken broth in this kalguksu, so I figured it'd appeal to everyone, young and old.
There's a whole half chicken's worth of meat in there too, so just looking at it feels satisfying! No chicken smell at all, clean and neat, so I kept reaching for more and more.

The noodles were chewy and thick, with a great bite — the noodles alone were so good they just kept disappearing!

The noodles soaked up so much broth that even the noodles themselves carried that deep flavor. Top a bite with a piece of spicy kimchi and it's incredible — I kept reaching for more.

The chewy mandu on the side
After a bit, the chewy mandu (dumplings) showed up! The wrapper thickness was just right and the filling was tasty — perfect alongside the kalguksu!

Since they're steamed fresh to order, they stayed hot and enjoyable right down to the last bite.
Honest verdict on Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch

This was my first visit to Eonyang Dak Kalguksu, this Tongdosa favorite! The food was delicious and the staff was friendly too. Getting both noodles and meat in one bowl left me feeling full for a long while after eating. When it gets chilly, you'll start craving hot broth — that'd be the perfect time to visit again. If you're looking to enjoy a delicious dak kalguksu, I'd recommend giving it a try.
