Chicken rice soup restaurant in Yangsan with kid chairs: Eonyang Dak

In short

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is a dak-kalguksu (chicken knife-cut noodle soup) and dak-gomtang (chicken rice soup) restaurant on Tongdosa-ro in Habuk-myeon, Yangsan, Gyeongnam. We ordered one dak-kalguksu, one dak-gomtang and one plate of chewy dumplings to compare the two broths: the dak-gomtang arrives with the rice already in the soup, soft like chicken porridge, and the self-serve corner offers refills of spicy and mild fresh kimchi. With kid chairs and its own parking lot behind the building, Eonyang Dak Kalguksu is an easy lunch stop with children on a trip to Tongdosa Temple.

Table setting with dak-kalguksu and dak-gomtang at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch

Today the weather was absolutely gorgeous!! Honestly the weather fairy has descended lately, and finding fun to go out every weekend has been so satisfying~~~ Today I was hunting for a good restaurant before visiting Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan and found a real gem!!! A chain restaurant, but it was so tasty that the crowd never stopped! Tongdosa restaurant recommendation, Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch :)

Where is Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch, and what are its hours?

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is at 6 Tongdosa-ro, Habuk-myeon, Yangsan-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, and it's open daily from 11 AM to 9 PM, with last order at 8 PM. It's right by Tongdosa Temple so there are a lot of tourists, but the food and quality were genuinely good.

  • Other branches are good too, but this one has especially tender chicken and rich broth!
  • Great taste and quality even though it's near a famous tourist spot!
  • Friendly staff and lots of customers mean fresh ingredients and good turnover!

Parking and waiting: nearly full 30 minutes after opening

Ta-da~~~ Search for Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch and head over~~~ there's a dedicated parking lot in the back, so parking is super easy and convenient!!! Totally recommend this restaurant if you're visiting nearby Tongdosa Temple or have business in Eonyang!

Park here and walk into the restaurant!! People pour in from opening time, and it's nearly full within 30 minutes of opening — that's a proper hit restaurant, right???

What we ordered: dak-kalguksu, dak-gomtang and chewy dumplings

The mains at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch are two: dak-kalguksu (chicken knife-cut noodle soup) and dak-gomtang (chicken rice soup). There are various other menu items, but really just think about these two~~~ do you want noodles or rice!! To taste each one, we ordered one dak-kalguksu, one dak-gomtang, and one order of chewy dumplings~~~

Basic geotjeori kimchi served on the table
Two basic side dishes: spicy and mild kimchi

The self-serve kimchi corner: spicy and mild

They set out basic kimchi first~~~ and you can grab more side dishes you need from the self-serve corner~~~ they have both spicy kimchi and mild kimchi, which is really great~~ personally I loved both so much!!! A geotjeori (fresh kimchi) hotspot, Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch :)

Extra basic side dishes gathered from the self-serve corner

Grabbed extra basic sides and set them up~~~

Red sauce for mixing into the broth

This is the sauce you mix into the broth!!! Recommended if you like a red, spicy broth~~~

Kid chair prepared at the restaurant

Is Eonyang Dak Kalguksu good with kids?

They also had a kid chair, so I noticed a lot of customers visiting with children~~ a Tongdosa restaurant you can visit worry-free with kids, Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch!

Dumplings appear first!! True to their name, chewy dumplings!! The wrapper is genuinely chewy, almost like tteok (rice cake)~~~ a side dish loved by kids and adults alike~~ make sure to order it~~~

While you're dipping the tasty dumplings in soy sauce, the main dish arrives!!!

Dak-gomtang and dak-kalguksu served together

Dak-gomtang vs dak-kalguksu: what is the difference?

Here they are — dak-gomtang and dak-kalguksu!!!!

Two bowls of dak-kalguksu and dak-gomtang each with half a chicken
Comparing the same broth in dak-gomtang and dak-kalguksu

Wow~~ the broth is the same for both!! Same half chicken too~~ the difference is noodles versus rice~~ dak-gomtang usually comes with rice served on the side, but here the rice is already mixed in, and it tastes so amazing like chicken porridge that I personally loved the dak-gomtang so, so much~~~

Dak-gomtang broth with rice grains spread like porridge

The chewy, springy noodles in the tasty dak-kalguksu are clearly the main draw~~ and the portion is really generous, so for guys I'd recommend ordering dak-kalguksu and adding a bowl of rice if you're still hungry!!! That way you can taste both flavors!!!

Noodles lifted up from the dak-kalguksu

The chicken was genuinely tender, soft, and substantial~~ the portion was really generous too!!! Well-boiled chicken where the bones separate perfectly!!!

See those grains of rice? Totally my type~~ a dak-gomtang that's easy to digest even for kids and great for recovery ♥

Scoop out some rice, let it cool, and top it with kimchi~~

Picked chicken meat eaten together with the broth

Pick out the chicken and pull the meat off the bone for a meal that's perfect for a boost of energy — dak-gomtang, dak-kalguksu, meal complete!!! If you're looking for a restaurant near Tongdosa Temple, I fully recommend Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch!!!
