Seoul Station wedding invite lunch for 2 with a butter mishap: Ichigyu

In short

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese-style breaded beef cutlet) restaurant in the basement of the LG Seoul Station Building in Jung-gu, Seoul. Two gyukatsu orders were grilled on a personal tabletop burner with melted butter, though butter first got mistakenly spread on the rice, leading to a ₩1,000 reorder. At ₩19,500 for the basic set and full of wedding invitation meetup groups, it's a solid pick for a Seoul Station gathering.

This time I'm introducing a Seoul Station restaurant I love — a gyukatsu spot! You melt butter on your own personal burner and cook the gyukatsu right on top of it. Absolutely delicious 🩷

The prices are cheaper than other gyukatsu places too, and it's so tasty I have to recommend it as a Seoul Station must-eat! When I visited, there were people who'd met up for a wedding invitation gathering, and I thought it'd be perfect for that kind of meetup near Seoul Station. Recommending it as a great spot for a Seoul Station wedding invite meetup, haha. Here's my honest review of Ichigyu~

Gyukatsu cooked on a personal tabletop burner

This is the burner you use to grill your gyukatsu.

At first I wondered what this was~ but when I opened it, it was packed with piping hot rice.

Bowl of hot rice revealed after opening the lid

We ordered two gyukatsu.

Full table spread for two servings of gyukatsu
Neatly set gyukatsu table setting

The whole spread comes out looking so neat and tidy.

The butter goes on the burner, not the rice!

We made one mistake. Don't make this same mistake, guys, lol. They give you a piece of butter each, and we assumed it was meant to make butter rice, so we happily piled the butter onto our rice.

Turns out the butter isn't meant for the rice — you're supposed to put it on the hot plate and grill the gyukatsu on top of it!!!! We realized too late, so we ordered an extra butter for ₩1,000 and put it on the hot plate. It definitely added a buttery aroma that made everything richer and more delicious.

Rich, dark miso soup

The miso soup is rich and delicious too.

Gyukatsu placed on the hot plate

They place the gyukatsu on the heated hot plate for you. The heat is intense so it cooks up in no time!

Realizing late that the butter goes on the burner with the gyukatsu, we finally ate it the right way, lol.

Everything's cooked now, so let's dig in 😆 The meat is so tender it just melts the moment it hits your mouth!

Sauce, salt, chili, or wasabi — what's the best way to eat it

Meat dipped in the signature gyukatsu sauce

Dipping the gyukatsu in its signature sauce, it's not too salty — just enough seasoning to make it delicious.

Gyukatsu dipped in salt

My tip: eat the first bite plain with nothing on it, then try the second bite dipped in salt!!

Gyukatsu served with sweet chili sauce

This was my first time trying gyukatsu with chili sauce, and it was surprisingly good? The sweet chili was delicious.

And wasabi just goes so well with meat, right? Try topping it with wasabi. Seriously so good~

Gyukatsu topped with wasabi

We're a bit greedy, so we tend to pile on a bunch at once ^^

Several pieces of gyukatsu piled on the hot plate

Putting gyukatsu on rice and topping it with wasabi makes me so happy, it's that good 🥰

A bite of rice topped with gyukatsu and wasabi

We kept piling it on greedily right to the end lol. We can't stand any lull in the flow — we refill right away! (No one else was piling it on as much as us..)

Cleared table after finishing the gyukatsu meal

Cleared the plate in no time~~~ Such a delicious meal!!!! Ate a filling, tasty meal and I'm in such a good mood.

Turns out Ichigyu has locations all over. I'm planning to visit the Gwanghwamun branch next~ You should all check out your nearest Ichigyu too~
