Seoul Station gyukatsu with weekday lunch waitlist and wasabi: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on the basement floor of the LG Seoul Station Building in Jung-gu, Seoul. A weekday lunch visit meant Catch Table reservations were already full, so the writer waited, then grilled a sirloin gyukatsu set (19,500 won) tableside and found the wasabi combo beat the salt and soy sauce. Worth booking ahead if you want the atmosphere for a Seoul Station date or lunch.

I went back to Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, a gyukatsu spot near Seoul Station I'd visited before, for a weekday lunch. The vibe is great for a Seoul Station date or lunch and the gyukatsu quality and presentation are both good, so I wanted to write it up.

Atmosphere and seating

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is located on the basement floor of the LG Seoul Station Building.

Even at weekday lunch, I found I needed to book on Catch Table early. It's popular enough that I waited before eating. They'd thoughtfully set out Febreze so you could get rid of the smell after your meal.

The restaurant has 13+ two-person tables, giving it a clean, cozy feel. Two-person tables can also be pushed together to seat four, so it works well for a date or a visit with friends.

What comes with the ₩19,500 sirloin gyukatsu

It comes with salad, pickled cabbage, and miso soup, plus a variety of sauces — chili sauce, salt, wasabi, and soy sauce — so you can eat it however you like.

The steaming hot white rice comes in a separate container, so each person can scoop out as much as they want into their own bowl.
How to grill it yourself
They give you one brazier for every two people, lit with a candle to keep the food warm while you eat. If the flame goes out while you're eating, just ask a staff member and they'll relight it!

Since it's made with sirloin, the gyukatsu was tender with a texture that almost melted in my mouth.
First, put butter on the hot plate on the brazier to melt, then coat the plate lightly with the oil. Then place the gyukatsu on it and grill it to your preferred doneness. You can brown the outside while cooking the inside exactly how you like it.

The wasabi combination was the best
Gyukatsu tastes great dipped in salt or soy sauce, but I'd also recommend topping it with wasabi. The wasabi cuts cleanly through the sirloin's savory richness, so you keep eating without it feeling greasy. Personally, a light touch of wasabi was the tastiest combination for me.

Paired with a cold beer especially, it went really well with the savory, tender gyukatsu — great as a drinking snack too.
Wrap-up
Because it uses sirloin, the gyukatsu itself was tender and savory, and it was more fun grilling it to my own preferred doneness at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch. The rice came separately so I could portion out as much as I wanted into my own bowl, and there was a good variety of sauces and sides. The gyukatsu paired with beer especially made for a great combination, and topping it with wasabi cut through the richness of the meat nicely, so I'd recommend it. For a Seoul Station date with good atmosphere and a fun grill-it-yourself twist on gyukatsu, I'd recommend stopping by Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch for lunch or dinner.
