Gangnam brunch restaurant with popover pancakes: The Mignon Seoul
In short
The Mignon Seoul is a two-story brunch restaurant between Gangnam and Sinnonhyeon stations in Seoul. On a return visit, I had the popover pancake and truffle mushroom gnocchi in the bright second-floor dining room. Verdict: the popover pancake was an especially dreamy brunch highlight.

The Mignon Seoul, a Gangnam brunch restaurant

The Mignon Seoul Daily 10:00–22:00 Break time 15:00–17:00
A Gangnam Station restaurant that stays open late, making it great for wine, too.

I had come here once before with a friend, and I remembered how pretty the interior was and how nice the atmosphere felt. I had wanted to return, and the gnocchi looked delicious too—so I revisited with a neighborhood unnie who loves gnocchi!

What are the first- and second-floor seats like?
The whole two-story building is theirs, so there is plenty of room. The first floor has the counter, an open kitchen, and dining space, so you can sit down there, but...

The second floor had felt roomier and better on my last visit, so we went upstairs. The first floor feels softly lit and cozy, while the second floor is bright and airy with sunlight pouring through its full-height windows.

We did reserve ahead, but perhaps because we came right at opening, there were plenty of seats, which was nice.

Last time I came right at opening and it was nearly full—I was so surprised.. This time, it looked as though seats really started filling up after 11 a.m.

Most tables seat two to four, but there are a few for up to six too, so it would be good for gatherings. It would be just the right atmosphere for a wedding-invitation get-together.

A Gangnam Station brunch restaurant where the lighting, tables, and chair designs are not all the same, and the thoughtful arrangement really stands out.

The brunch set for two
We were planning to go for coffee elsewhere afterward, so I only ordered one iced coffee just to wet my throat... Later I saw there was a brunch set for two, and what a shame;

The Mignon Seoul's brunch set for two includes pasta or gnocchi, one brunch dish, two drinks, and a salad or soup, so it is an excellent deal. Do not make the same mistake I did—definitely try it. There may be set hours, but there was no separate notice, so you would need to ask the restaurant directly.

They brought the food right to our table, and even though I ordered only one coffee, they thoughtfully gave us an extra cup. The presentation was every bit as lovely as in the photos.

My first popover pancake
Popover pancake

A puffed pancake served with roasted banana, arugula, fruit, ricotta, prosciutto, and tomato.

I had seen a Dutch baby being made somewhere before and was curious about the taste. Unlike an ordinary pancake cooked in a frying pan, it is baked in the oven and has a distinctive hollow, plate-like center. The key is baking a slightly loose batter all at once in the oven: the edges puff up while the center sinks deeply. Then you fill that space with fruit, ham, nuts, and so on.

What I had seen before was a Dutch baby, but this looked almost identical, so I think the difference is simply whether it is German-style or American-style. Popover literally means something that has puffed up.

My first taste of a popover pancake was... fantastic. The texture and flavor were completely different from a regular pancake. All the air pockets created as it rises make it incredibly soft, and the inside feels like a smooth custard. It was a little sweet for first thing in the morning, but there was nothing to fault about it! A happy brunch that was a feast for the eyes, too.

Seared truffle mushroom gnocchi
Truffle mushroom gnocchi

There are two kinds of gnocchi, chestnut gnocchi and truffle cream, and unnie chose this one. It is the familiar but fail-safe combination of button mushrooms, bacon, and truffle cream sauce. I wondered from the photo whether the portion might be a little small, but the gnocchi were much thicker and bigger than expected, filling the plate. They were nicely seared on the outside and moist and chewy inside—exactly my favorite style.

The truffle cream sauce tasted a little like button mushroom soup, with plenty of truffle oil drizzled over it, so the aroma was quite rich. It was not overly rich, and just when it might have become so, the salty bacon balanced it perfectly.

I make pasta at home often, but gnocchi is hard to make at home—so I officially approve of this as a great gnocchi spot near Gangnam Station! Both dishes we had that day were delicious, so I was very satisfied.

Evening wine and access
The wine cellar seemed to have a wide selection, and since it stays open until 10 p.m. and has a lovely atmosphere, I think it would be great for an evening date. I have not visited at night, but the lighting would probably give this Gangnam Station restaurant a charm quite different from daytime.

There does not seem to be separate parking, but it is between Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam stations, so it is an easy walk from either one. It is also within a three-minute walk of a bus stop, so access is good.

This photo is from a visit in January this year; it was so pretty and atmospheric during the Christmas season. Recommended as a Gangnam Station brunch restaurant!
