Seongsu burger restaurant for a married couple's lunch: bd Burger

I asked my wife what she felt like eating for lunch, and she said she was craving a burger today.

Should we skip rice and get burgers today?!

I'd also been wanting a handmade burger with a milkshake on the side, so choosing where to go wasn't hard at all.

Why the couple went back to bd Burger near Seongsu Station

Thinking about where to go, I remembered bd Burger in Seongsu, which we'd visited before. My memory of the first visit was good, so we decided to go back together this time. Since we'd already been once, I found myself thinking about what to order differently — remembering dishes we loved, and curious about the ones we hadn't tried yet.

What the two of them ordered at bd Burger

If you're thinking about a burger date near Seongsu Station, our combo this time might be worth referencing. We went with a char-grilled shrimp avocado set and a cheongyang bulgogi burger set. We also added a corn salad and original fries.

For the set drinks, we both picked milkshakes, and for sides, one of us went with eggplant fritters and the other with mushroom fritters. Pretty serious about choosing sides for a burger outing, right? What I like about going as a couple is that we can pick differently and end up tasting more variety together.

Original fries instead of butter garlic this time

Oh, and we deliberately ordered original fries this time. On our first visit we had butter garlic — it looked delicious, but since neither of us handles rich, heavy food well, we ended up leaving quite a bit of it that time.

So this time we dialed it back and switched to the plain version. Since we were already planning burgers plus milkshakes, we wanted the fries to be on the lighter side. It's nice that coming back to the same place let us adjust our order to fit our taste.

Milkshakes instead of cola with the burgers

For drinks, milkshake was the obvious choice. Cola usually comes to mind first alongside a burger, but when there's a milkshake option, my eyes keep drifting there.

At first I wondered if it would even go with the burger, but once I got used to it, I sometimes find myself craving that exact combination. This was exactly one of those days.

How do the shrimp avocado and cheongyang bulgogi burgers taste?

The burgers were great again this time. I generally prefer shrimp burgers over meat ones.

So the char-grilled shrimp avocado was the one I was looking forward to from the start. Once I had my favorite locked in, it freed me up to try something new for the other burger.

And the cheongyang bulgogi burger (cheongyang chili-spiced bulgogi burger) we picked turned out better than expected. The slight kick paired nicely with the bulgogi.

I would've been disappointed if I'd assumed 'spicy' automatically meant overwhelming. For my palate, that hint of heat actually added to the flavor.

Of course, spice tolerance varies from person to person, so this part will come down to preference. The heat is more of a light accent here, so there's no need to be too wary of it.

The find of the day: mushroom fritters at bd Burger

And there's one thing I especially wanted to mention from this visit — the mushroom fritters. We changed up our set combination and tried them for the first time, and they were genuinely delicious.

I didn't expect that nutty, savory flavor unique to button mushrooms to work this well. Beyond just the burgers being good, having a satisfying new side too made me feel like we'd chosen well. If you're a mushroom fan, this combo is worth picking over the fries.

I have a feeling I'll be thinking about the mushroom fritters again next time we visit.

A walk along Seongsu's café street after lunch

After we finished eating, we didn't head straight back — we walked around the area instead. Since it's near Seongsu's café street, it was fun to wander and let the meal settle.

Just having a good lunch and chatting while wandering the neighborhood was enough to feel like a proper outing together. Along the way we even spotted the celebrity Hong Suk-cheon — a totally unexpected moment that became its own memory from this lunch date.

It all started with one line from my wife about wanting a burger, and turned into a day of burgers, milkshakes, and a stroll around the neighborhood.

You don't need an elaborate course to make it a good date, right?
