I visited bd Burger Seongsu, the purple-signed burger spot near Seongsu Station famous for its shrimp burger and eggplant fritters. bd stands for "double thumbs-up," as in the finger gesture — haha. Let's see just how good it is.

What two people ordered at bd Burger Seongsu

We ordered the grilled shrimp avocado burger with a beer, eggplant & mushroom fritters, and the popular double cheeseburger set with cheese fries and a milkshake. The wasabi shrimp burger is the signature item, but so many people have already reviewed that one that we went a different direction.

I had Budweiser, my friend had the milkshake. Beer with burger, milkshake with burger — honestly it's hard to say which combo wins.

Once the food's ready, you just carry the nicely arranged tray back to your table.

There's a distinctive burger stand that props the burger up at an angle, so you get a much better view of the layered cross-section. It genuinely looked just like the photos, so I was excited before even taking a bite.

Grilled shrimp avocado burger with Budweiser

The grilled shrimp avocado burger is the spicy, slightly lighter signature shrimp burger, combining char-grilled whole shrimp with avocado.

The fire-grilled shrimp meat pops with a real smoky char. Paired with the soft avocado and the special sauce, it definitely earns its spot as the signature menu item.

Double cheeseburger set with a milkshake

The double cheeseburger wins you over with its thick double cheese and patty texture.

The shrimp burger is the star, but the cheeseburger is truly American in flavor. The red onion pairs especially well.

Cheese fries

Thin shoestring fries are piled with a generous amount of rich, American-style cheddar cheese. The cheddar is thick and gooey, and the crispy fries turn gooey too the more you eat — the kind of taste you could eat endlessly.

Eggplant and mushroom fritters

The mushroom and fritter plate comes with 3 pieces of eggplant fritter, 3 pieces of mushroom fritter, and a pairing of chipotle sauce and ranch.

The eggplant fritter is super crispy. The eggplant inside stays moist, and you dip it in the slightly spicy chipotle. Eggplant really is best fried.

Personally, the whole mushroom fritter was more my style. Inside the crispy batter, the mushroom's fresh aroma and juice are perfectly preserved, so it bursts in your mouth with one bite. It's the kind of flavor where you can't tell if it's healthy or not — hahahaha.

Inside bd Burger Seongsu: seating and self-serve bar

bd Burger Seongsu has an unusual layout — it's shaped like a straw bent to the right,

with 4-person and group tables in the rectangular section, and about 4 more 2-person tables in the bent-off section.

We came a bit after the weekday lunch rush, and it was still packed, with people continuously coming in. Clearly a quietly, steadily popular spot.

You order via the kiosk at each table.

There's a self-bar near the front of the store with ketchup, water, plastic gloves, wet wipes, straws, forks, knives, plates, salt, pepper, and even hair ties.

bd Burger Seongsu menu and lunch discount

Basic orders go through the kiosk, but since many customers order takeout, they also keep a separate paper menu. The lunch menu discount is a nice bonus.

You can swap sets in various ways and there's a rich selection of sides, so it's fun to choose.

How to find bd Burger on Yeonmujang-gil

bd Burger Seongsu isn't far from Exit 3 of Seongsu Station. That said, the entrance is small relative to the size of the store, so look carefully for the purple sign.

Once you spot the entrance, just head up to the 2nd floor. bd Burger Seongsu is a great place to visit when you're looking for a date spot in Seongsu or just craving a good burger. Next time I'll definitely try the signature wasabi shrimp burger and the fire chicken shrimp.
