This post is about a Daegu Daemyeong-dong restaurant everyone calls Hyeongnim Dakgui — grilled chicken. The prices are so reasonable and the self-bar is honestly ridiculous, so it's really well known among locals in the area. The place is also huge, great for group gatherings. And since you can use the Keimyung University parking lot for two hours, it's a very convenient visit. Let's get into the detailed review!

What comes with the 27,000-won half portion of grilled chicken?
Hyeongnim Dakgui's signature dish is, as the name suggests, grilled chicken. Since we visited as two people, we ordered a half portion, priced at a very reasonable ₩27,000. Besides grilled chicken, the menu also has pork belly, makchang (grilled beef intestines), and pork ribs.

Here's the interior. It's incredibly spacious. In the main hall you can even watch baseball on a large screen, so it's a great option if you want to eat meat while catching a game.

What can you take from the free self-bar at Hyeongnim Dakgui?
Hyeongnim Dakgui's pride and joy is the self-bar. Beyond a variety of side dishes, you can freely use fried eggs, ramyeon, salad, coffee and even ice cream.

You can fry your own eggs too.

Self-serve ramyeon (instant noodles) is also free to use.

The salad zone is nicely set up too, isn't it?

And for dessert, coffee and ice cream are also ready. There's an ice machine, so you can even make iced Americanos yourself. The main dishes are already cheap, and with such a great self-bar on top, this is a great pick for a restaurant in Daemyeong-dong, Daegu.

Private rooms and a kids' play room for family meals and company dinners
The interior of Hyeongnim Dakgui Daemyeong-dong Gyeongdae branch is really huge. There were so many customers. The private rooms in particular are well set up, so it seems like a good choice for gatherings or company dinners around Nam-gu, Daegu.

There's also a kids' play room, so it's a good spot to visit even with young children.

I fried two eggs myself and gave them to my kid, who loved it so much.
How does the pre-grilled chicken at Hyeongnim Dakgui taste?
This is the half portion of grilled chicken. Even as a half portion, the amount is quite generous, isn't it? Hyeongnim Dakgui's grilled chicken comes pre-cooked once already.

They're also running a Naver receipt review event. They say they'll give out either alcohol or steamed egg, so it might be worth spending a minute to take part.

Now we start grilling the chicken properly. The charcoal heat is strong, so it cooks quickly.

They also sell slush beer here, so I ordered a glass. It reminded me of a beer I had in Japan.

With the delicious grilled chicken cooking away and a cold, tasty draft beer ready, I felt so good. It was like giving myself a reward for a hard day's work.

With such strong heat, the grilled chicken cooks up deliciously in no time. It's soy sauce flavored, which makes it even more exciting.

We also ordered doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). Doenjang jjigae is the best way to finish off a meal with rice.

Is Hyeongnim Dakgui in Daemyeong-dong worth a second visit?
I visited Hyeongnim Dakgui, a restaurant in Daemyeong-dong, Daegu. The price of the grilled chicken was fine, and the self-bar was set up so attractively that my satisfaction was quite high. If you're looking for delicious grilled chicken near Nam-gu, visiting this Hyeongnim Dakgui wouldn't be a bad choice at all.
