After swimming all day at Hamdeok Beach in Jeju, I was trying to figure out what to eat for dinner when I found this place.

It's Jeju Samchun's Hamdeok Beach branch, and it turned out to be a real hidden gem for black pork on the east side of Jeju. I stumbled onto it while looking for restaurants near Sonobel Jeju, and once I tasted it, I immediately understood why there's a wait. But more than anything, sharing the meal with good people I met in Jeju is what made this place stick in my memory.

Walking distance from Hamdeok Beach
Jeju Samchun sits right near the Hamdeok Beach Olive Young intersection. It's an easy walk from the beach, so it's a great spot to head to for black pork right after a swim. It's also close to Sonobel Jeju, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good restaurant near their accommodation.

Parking and the evening wait
For parking, you can use the free lot with the green fence behind the Hamdeok Olive Young. We visited in the evening and waited about 20 minutes, which was manageable. Once we got there, it was clear why it's so popular — the place was packed. Watching more customers keep coming in while we waited, it felt like a spot locals love too.

Samchun set plus two extra servings of aged pork belly
There were four of us, so we ordered the Samchun set and added two extra servings of aged samgyeopsal (pork belly). When the meat came out, it looked amazing right away — being aged black pork, the color of the meat alone felt different from the usual.

Myeongran special sauce and breadcrumb salt
They serve a good variety of house sauces here, but the one that stuck with me most was the myeongran (pollock roe) special sauce, along with the breadcrumb salt. I always thought Jeju black pork was only dipped in melजeot (fermented anchovy sauce), but eating it with these different sauces made it even tastier.

The meat itself felt incredibly fresh. I've had black pork several times since coming to Jeju, and well-aged meat definitely has a deeper flavor. The thickness of the cut was just right too, giving it a really satisfying chew.

Staff grill it from start to finish
What I liked most here was that the staff grill the meat completely from start to finish. Grilling black pork properly is surprisingly important, and having them do it meant we got to eat it at exactly the right moment — which made it that much more satisfying.

Eating it with the outside browned nicely and the inside still juicy was genuinely delicious. Since all we had to do was chat while the meat cooked, it also made for a relaxed meal while traveling.

I tried putting the meat on a piece of gim (dried seaweed) with a bit of the myeongran sauce on top, and it was absolutely delicious. The savory black pork combined with the salty richness of the pollock roe had me going back for that combination again and again.

Yeolmu noodles and kimchi jjigae too
It felt like a waste to eat only meat, so we also ordered yeolmu noodles (cold noodles with young radish greens) and kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew). Both portions turned out to be bigger than expected. The yeolmu noodles were cool and refreshing, so having a bite between rounds of meat cleared the palate nicely. The kimchi jjigae paired perfectly with the meat too, and eating it with rice made for a really filling meal.

An evening with people I met in Jeju
Honestly, the food wasn't the only good part of the day — the time spent together was even more special! I had dinner with friends I'd met while traveling around Jeju, and since we clicked so easily, it barely felt like we'd just met. Chatting about our trips and photos while the meat cooked, I lost track of time!
Zero-sugar cola was a must. Basically honorary Jeju locals at this point, haha. My hands are all tanned from living the Jeju life lately...

Being right near Hamdeok Beach, it's a great spot for dinner after a swim, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good restaurant near Sonobel Jeju too. More than the delicious black pork, I think it's that evening with good company that will stay with me longest. If I make connections like that in Jeju again, I'd love to come back to Jeju Samchun 😆
