Dinner for two at ₩9,500: Suwon pork kimchi grill house Sarangjip

In short

Sarangjip is a budget pork kimchi grill restaurant in Uman-dong, near Ajou University in Suwon, Gyeonggi. Two people had the small pork kimchi grill, 300g of meat, for ₩9,500 after work, plus a free fried rice from the review event, and still left food on the table. With that price, that portion and an old-school Daehangno feel, Sarangjip is a 100% return visit.

Sarangjip, a grill restaurant near Ajou University in Suwon, for dinner after work

Sarangjip is a pork kimchi grill restaurant in Uman-dong, near Ajou University in Suwon. I was trying to figure out what to eat for dinner after finishing work in Suwon, so I looked for a meat restaurant near Ajou University! I wanted something hearty after clocking out, and this place turned out to have a better vibe and better taste than I expected, so I wanted to share it :)

Inside Sarangjip: indoor tables and outdoor seats

Sarangjip had more tables inside than I expected, and there were tables set up outside too, so it seemed like a great spot for eating outdoors on a nice day!

Interior of Sarangjip with several tables

Sarangjip has a lot of cute little details scattered around the interior, so it was fun just looking around! When I visited, a Psy playlist was playing, and the overall vibe felt like stepping into Daehangno from 10 years ago!! It was fun to feel that old-school charm that's hard to find in restaurants these days~

Sarangjip prices: ₩5,000 lunch special pork and kimchi fried rice

What stood out most at this pork kimchi grill restaurant was definitely the price! They sell a lunch special pork kimchi fried rice, and the price is just ₩5,000...! If I'd known about this place back in college, I probably would have come here all the time. This really seems like the perfect lunch spot in Uman-dong haha. But seriously, boss... at this price, are you even making any money...?😂 The prices felt like they were from 10 years ago, which was honestly shocking given how much everything costs these days;;

And getting fried rice through a review event on top of that? That's honestly unbelievable...!

Pork kimchi grill (small), 300g for two, wrapped in perilla leaf with corn mayo

What we ordered was Sarangjip's pork kimchi grill (small) for two! The meat alone was 300g, so the portion looked pretty solid.

Sarangjip's side dishes including perilla leaves, corn mayo and pickled radish

The side dishes were perilla leaves, corn mayo, pickled radish, mayonnaise, ssamjang, and bean sprout soup. The restaurant even had instructions on how to eat it deliciously! The method was to put the pork kimchi grill on a perilla leaf, then top it with mayonnaise, corn, and pickled radish. At first I thought, 'will this combination actually work?' but once I tried it, it was exactly my taste!!! The spiciness of the pork kimchi grill got mellowed out a bit by the mayo and corn mayo, making it feel much softer and tastier haha.

₩9,500 for two people, with food left over

Thinking that the portion would be small just because it's cheap was completely wrong. The portion was actually so generous that we had a bit left over even eating together! Two people, a hearty meal, for ₩9,500... considering today's prices, I'd expect this level of quality to cost at least ₩12,000, so it was genuinely surprising.

Honestly, it's not common to walk out of a restaurant thinking, 'this place is likable in so many ways!' But here, the price, the portion, and the taste were all satisfying, and more than anything, I just felt good after eating. It's been years since I naturally thought 'I want to come back here again' after a meal, and that made me happier than I expected haha.

Finishing with the review-event fried rice at Sarangjip

Even the fried rice we got from the review event turned out to be generous...! We finished off that last bit of fried rice properly, and ate really well right to the end haha.

Sarangjip even had beer for ₩4,500...! If you're looking for a place to eat near Ajou University, I definitely recommend giving this a try at least once!!! If I ever have a reason to go back to the area, I'm 100% coming back haha.
