Suwon patio café by Hwaseong Fortress with ube matcha: Caffeine Focus

In short

Caffeine Focus is a three-story café in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, standing right in front of the Hwaseong Fortress wall. On a cool day the writer took a ground-floor outdoor table at Caffeine Focus and ordered an Americano (5,500 won), an ube cream matcha latte (7,500 won) and an egg scone (4,500 won), while the vanilla bean Basque cheesecake was sold out. For coffee outdoors with the fortress wall in full view, Caffeine Focus is a fine view café.

With the weather turning cooler these days, it's the perfect time for coffee outdoors ☕️ So on a trip to Haenggung-dong in Suwon, I stumbled on a café with an amazing atmosphere. It's Caffeine Focus, where the Hwaseong Fortress wall sits right in front of you!

I originally just went in for a coffee, but the view was so pretty I ended up sitting there for a while. Especially on a nice day, it's great to sit at an outdoor table and take in the fortress view at leisure — I'd really recommend it ✨

Where is Caffeine Focus and when is it open?

Caffeine Focus is a café that takes up the 1st through 3rd floors at 15 Changnyongdae-ro 80beon-gil, Paldal-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open 11:00–20:00, closed every Tuesday, and there's a parking lot right in front of the café.

It's a pretty large café spanning three floors, so it catches your eye even from a distance. If you're looking for a café near Hwaseong Fortress or Haenggung-dong, it's worth keeping this location in mind!

The Hwaseong Fortress wall right in front of the café

The biggest draw of Caffeine Focus is the view of the Hwaseong Fortress wall right in front of the café. The interior atmosphere is nice too, but personally, the view was what really won me over.

You can see the fortress wall right in front of the café, and the way it blends with the green scenery around it was even prettier than I expected.

I visited on a cooler day and grabbed a seat at an outdoor table, and sipping coffee while looking at the fortress wall almost made me feel like I was on a trip 🌿 With a gentle breeze blowing too, just sitting there felt healing!

If you're looking for a café in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, and want to snap some pretty photos, this kind of atmosphere is just right. And since the café spans three floors, it's quite large in scale too.

Rooftop on the 3rd floor and what's provided

There's also a rooftop space on the 3rd floor, and on a nice day it would be lovely to look out over Haenggung-dong from up there.

Since you can see the Hwaseong Fortress wall from here, it was also a really good spot for photos 📸 Personally, I'd recommend trying to grab a great shot here too!

The restrooms are on the 1st and 3rd floors, and there were blankets and water provided, which made me feel the owner's thoughtful touch.

What we ordered: Americano, ube cream matcha latte, egg scone

Table setup with Americano, ube cream matcha latte, and egg scone

This time I ordered ☕ an Americano (₩5,500), 🍵 an ube cream matcha latte (₩7,500), and 🥚 an egg scone (₩4,500).

Americano, 5,500 won — nutty with no sourness

First, the Americano had a nutty flavor without any sourness.

I tend to prefer coffee that's nutty and easy to drink over coffee with a strong sour edge, so this suited me perfectly. It paired especially well with the egg scone I'll introduce next. Taking a sip of coffee between bites of the bakery item cleaned up the palate nicely 😋

Ube cream matcha latte, 7,500 won — as pretty as it tastes

Ube cream matcha latte with layered purple and green colors

And now the menu item I was most looking forward to! I already love both ube and matcha, so the second I saw a drink combining the two on the menu, I picked it right away.

But when it arrived, it was even prettier than I imagined 🥹💜💚 The colors alone were gorgeous, so I spent a while just taking photos. Honestly it was so pretty that at first I almost hated to stir it together haha.

The sweet, nutty flavor of the ube combined with matcha's signature bitterness turned out to be a really good pairing. If you like ube, I'd really recommend trying this at least once. Personally, it's a menu item I'd want to order again at Caffeine Focus — great looks and great taste, highly recommend! ✨

Egg scone, 4,500 won — filling like an egg tart

This was my first time trying an egg scone, and it reminded me more of an egg tart than I expected.

The filling inside was really soft and moist, and the scone itself was nutty and soft too, so eating them together gave a really tender texture.

If you're a fan of egg tarts, this will probably suit your taste. And of course, a dessert like this needs a sip of Americano to go with it ☕️ haha. Eating the soft, sweet egg scone and taking a sip of the nutty Americano made for a really nice combo.

Vanilla bean Basque cheesecake was sold out

Empty spot where the sold-out vanilla bean Basque cheesecake would have been

There was actually one more item I really wanted to try that day. The vanilla bean Basque cheesecake! But unfortunately, it was already sold out by the time we visited ㅠㅠ

It was a real shame, but it also gave me a reason to come back again. Next time I'm definitely getting that cheesecake 🧀 I came here looking for a pretty café near Hwaseong Fortress, and the desserts were so good that I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Review event at Caffeine Focus

At the time of my visit, there was also a review event running. Apparently you get 50g of handmade cardamom granola for writing a review, so if you're visiting, be sure to check it out! I liked that they included even little events like this 😊

Fortress views from the ground-floor outdoor tables

We settled into a 1st-floor outdoor table that day! The weather had turned just cool enough that it was perfect for drinking coffee outside, and the view that greeted us as soon as we sat down — the Hwaseong Fortress wall — really won me over.

You can see the fortress wall right through the green trees, and the scenery was so pretty that I just kept looking at it while sipping my coffee 🌿 With a cool, gentle breeze blowing, sitting there leisurely taking in the fortress view felt genuinely healing! On a day like this, coffee outside really does taste better than coffee indoors ☕️

The photos turned out really pretty too, so I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a café with a good view near Hwaseong Fortress or a café in Haenggung-dong 📸✨

Is Caffeine Focus worth a visit?

Caffeine Focus felt less like a café you just grab coffee at and leave, and more like a place to enjoy the Hwaseong Fortress scenery alongside your coffee. Especially as the weather cools down, I'd really recommend sitting at an outdoor table and having a coffee while looking at the fortress wall.

  • 🌿 Hwaseong Fortress wall view
  • ☕ Nutty Americano
  • 💜 Ube cream matcha latte
  • 🥚 Soft egg scone
  • 🌿 3rd-floor rooftop
  • 🚗 Parking lot in front
  • 📸 Great atmosphere for photos

With all these upsides, it would suit anyone looking for a Hwaseong Fortress café, a Haenggung-dong café, or a great-view café in Suwon. Above all, I really loved the ube cream matcha latte, and missing out on the vanilla bean Basque cheesecake keeps nagging at me, so I'll probably be back before long haha. If you want to explore Hwaseong Fortress on a nice day and then rest at a pretty café, I recommend Caffeine Focus! ✨
