On days when I'm craving meat, pork belly is always the first thing that comes to mind. I went shopping at Starfield Goyang over the weekend, and since it's near Samsong Station and close to Starfield too, I stopped by a place that anyone searching for Starfield restaurants or Samsong restaurants has probably heard of — Neopttakjip Samsong Branch. The location, right between Samsong Station and Starfield, was pretty convenient. Bottom line: the meat quality here was genuinely great and delicious 🩷

📍 The name Neopttakjip is a bit unusual — according to the restaurant's own description, it comes from a Jeju dialect word meaning to spread meat out wide and generously, also implying generous hospitality. Above all, since it specializes in domestic pork, it seemed like a Samsong restaurant well worth visiting for anyone who loves meat.

It's close to Samsong Station Exit 3, so it's convenient by public transit, and apparently there's also shopping complex parking available.

It's open from lunch, not just for dinner, so it also seemed like a good option if you're craving meat for lunch in Samsong.

Sure enough, there's a row of waiting seats right out front, and a waitlist sign-up right at the entrance. Luckily we went at an early dinner hour, so we got seated right away.

Inside Neopttakjip: atmosphere and private room seating
🏠 The Neopttakjip Samsong Branch space overall is clean, with an old-school, outdoor-tent kind of barbecue restaurant vibe. There were families dining together, and it also felt like a comfortable place for friends or couples. There's also a room-style space, so it looked good for gatherings or company dinners too. So beyond just coming for pork belly, it seemed like a solid pick for anyone looking for a Samsong dinner venue!

Sitting there with the windows open, the breeze was nice and cool, and it was great for grilling meat outdoor-tent style in this kind of weather.
What comes in the 600g mixed grill for 57,000 won?
🥩 Neopttakjip is serious about its meat. What stood out reading the restaurant's introduction was that, in pursuit of good raw meat, they learned livestock and distribution themselves and even set up their own distribution system. Their own-distributed pork apparently goes through a first-round selection, second-round inspection, and third-round aging process before being served. So beyond regular pork belly, you can try a variety of cuts like pork neck, hayansal (white meat), saitsal, kkodeulsal, and galmaegisal. A lot of BBQ places only have pork belly on the menu, so it was nice to be able to pick from this many different cuts.

We wanted to try a variety of cuts that day, so we ordered the mixed grill. The mixed grill lets you taste several pork cuts at once, so it seemed like a great option for a first-time visit to try a bit of everything. The mixed grill comes in a 600g portion for ₩57,000 and lets you enjoy four cuts at once. I also noticed they have a really solid weekday lunch special. And on the last page of the menu, there's a guide to the tastiest ways to eat the meat! Haha, I dutifully followed along.

The self-serve bar and side dishes at Neopttakjip
🥢 And there's a self-serve bar! When you're eating BBQ, wraps or side dishes sometimes run low, and instead of asking staff for refills every time, it was convenient to grab what you needed from the self-serve bar yourself. I especially like piling on wraps and side dishes while eating meat, so I really appreciated having a self-serve bar like this. If anything runs out while you're eating, you can just grab more right away without feeling awkward about it.

The side dishes came out right away. Whoa, see that kimchi? You absolutely have to grill sour kimchi with pork belly, and theirs was properly sour. That yellow one looked like a curry mayonnaise salad? It had a curry aroma to it. It tasted different from a regular macaroni salad, which was interesting. And there was garlic scape relish and pickled green chili and scallion! The garlic scape relish here was genuinely delicious 💟 The sauce was sesame oil, perilla powder, and salt.

Grilling the mixed grill over charcoal, with every cut labeled
They set up the charcoal grill, and the plate arrives~~

The meat came out too. Each cut was labeled so it was easy to tell them apart as you ate. And they gave us rice cake, mushrooms, onion, and sweet potato to grill alongside.

You grill the meat yourself right on the pan. As the meat starts to cook on the grill, that savory smell starts wafting up — this is exactly the smell of a real BBQ restaurant, haha.

My fiancé, who is very serious about meat, immediately started grilling the pork neck first. And naturally topped it with kimchi right away~

Three ways to eat the pork, straight from the menu
For the first method of eating well-grilled meat, I dipped it in sesame oil, perilla powder, and salt. My favorite moment at any BBQ restaurant is grabbing a piece the second it's perfectly cooked 🤤 Picking up meat browned nicely on the grill and dipping it lightly in salt lets you really taste the meat itself, right? But dipping it in sesame oil and perilla powder too doubled the savory flavor.

Second, I topped it with well-grilled kimchi and pickled chili-scallion. Personally, I felt the pepper flavor was a bit too strong on this one.

Third! One bite topped with garlic scape relish. It was spicy and sweet, and so, so good. This one's my favorite.

Next up, kkodeulsal (chewy pork cartilage meat). This part was genuinely delicious. Oh, and there was fermented anchovy sauce (myeoljeot) too, and dipping the meat in that was great.

Nom nom.
Next, the ultimate: pork belly. Pork belly is obviously the best even just with kimchi. Each cut had a different texture, so it was fun comparing — this one's chewy, that one's tender.
Finishing the meal with spicy ramyeon
🌶️ And after eating meat for a while, you start craving something spicy and hot to finish, right? We also ordered spicy ramyeon as our meal item. After eating nothing but meat, that hot, spicy noodle broth felt like it completely reset my palate. The combo of meat plus ramyeon really is hard to mess up, haha. It's good eaten alongside the meat, or ordered as a final dish to share.

Worth it when you want pork BBQ in Samsong?
💛 If you're looking for a great pork belly restaurant, I highly recommend Neopttakjip Samsong Branch. It's also close to Starfield Goyang, so it's worth considering if you're already hunting for Starfield restaurants. That day, we thoroughly enjoyed a variety of cuts with the mixed grill, made good use of the self-serve bar, and finished with a satisfying spicy ramyeon for dinner. Next time I visit, I'd like to try their signature ibulgalbi (blanket ribs) menu. We went out for meat and came back properly, thoroughly full! Enjoyed the mixed grill at Neopttakjip Samsong Branch, a solid Samsong restaurant 🥩❤️
