Gangneung sashimi restaurant with a parking voucher: Ilchul Hoetjip

Ilchul Hoetjip, located inside Jumunjin Fish Market, is a Jumunjin sashimi restaurant that sells live-fish sashimi and seasonal seafood alongside snow crab, king crab, and red crab.

They handle fish in season, so you can find different catches depending on the time of year — bluefin amberjack in winter, pomfret and red seabream in summer, and more.

The menu also includes pufferfish sashimi, seasonal assorted sashimi, and snow crab sashimi sets, and the space reportedly seats more than 150 people.

Since it's a Jumunjin sashimi restaurant where you can buy both sashimi and seafood right inside Jumunjin Fish Market, it was a good stop while wandering around the market.

I often go to Jumunjin Fish Market when I need fish or seafood. That day too, I went to buy fish, and while walking through the market alleys I stopped by Ilchul Hoetjip and ended up taking home some sashimi.

Where to park and how to reach Ilchul Hoetjip

If you're driving, using Jumunjin Coastal Parking Tower makes it easy to find. Head into the Jumunjin Fish Market alley across from the parking tower, and Ilchul Hoetjip is the third shop on the right.

I used the parking tower myself, and used the 1-hour parking discount voucher I got from the restaurant on my way out. If you plan to shop for groceries at the market and take sashimi home too, it's handy to know the parking location in advance.

In front of the restaurant there was a long tank holding snow crab and other seafood, and inside there was a separate tank for live fish.

You can see for yourself what kind of seafood they carry, so I took a quick look around before ordering.

Inside Ilchul Hoetjip: atmosphere and seating

Even though it's a sashimi restaurant inside a market, once I went in there were a surprising number of tables. The store info said it can hold over 150 people, and seeing it in person, the seating stretched a long way back.

It was large enough for family meals or group visits with several people. On one side of the restaurant, you could also see clippings from TV features.

There was signage noting that it was featured on KBS's 6 O'Clock My Hometown for pufferfish sashimi, and on Korean Table for pufferfish sashimi and pufferfish soup.

Ilchul Hoetjip takeout menu and prices

Ilchul Hoetjip has a separate takeout menu in addition to dine-in. On the takeout menu board when I visited, halibut-salmon sashimi, halibut-rockfish sashimi, and seasonal assorted sashimi were listed at ₩40,000 for small, ₩60,000 for medium, and ₩80,000 for large. Flounder sashimi was ₩50,000, ₩70,000, and ₩80,000 for small, medium, and large. There were also sets pairing sashimi with snow crab or red crab.

What I ordered that day was the Ilchul Special Assorted Sashimi Platter for ₩49,900.

What comes with the 49,900 won Ilchul Special Assorted Sashimi Platter?

When I got home and opened the takeout box, several kinds of sashimi were arranged separately on a large plate.

Rather than just one type of sashimi, the standout feature of the Ilchul Special Assorted Sashimi Platter was being able to pick from a variety of types.

Alongside the sashimi, there was also seafood to eat as sides, like shrimp and abalone,

and lettuce, garlic, chili peppers, chojang, soy sauce, and wasabi were all included too, so I could set the whole spread right away.

How does the Ilchul Special Assorted Sashimi Platter taste?

I started with a piece of sashimi. It wasn't sliced too thin, so each bite had some texture to chew on. Depending on the type, the grain and chewiness of the flesh differed a bit, which made picking through them one by one kind of fun.

Mixing in shrimp and abalone here and there made the meal feel more varied than just eating sashimi the whole time.

Is Ilchul Hoetjip worth it? Final verdict

The ₩49,900 Ilchul Special Assorted Sashimi Platter I took home for dinner after going to Jumunjin Fish Market to buy fish. I could pick from several types of sashimi, and with the side seafood and lettuce wraps all included, it was easy to set the table as soon as I got home.
