Café in Dong, Daegu with riverside views and cake: Hands Coffee
In short
Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch is a large café in Dong, Daegu, overlooking the Geumho River. I visited with a friend, had an ice cream café latte and two cakes on the third floor, and found the dark wood interior cozy and the latte smooth without being overly sweet. Brunch is also available, though I did not try it on this visit.

I visited Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch (핸즈커피 동촌유원지점) with a friend I had not seen in a while. It is a large café overlooking the Geumho River, and its spacious setting made it a good place to have coffee and dessert while catching up.

Where is it, and what is the parking like?
The address is 5-6 Hyodong-ro 6-gil, Dong-gu, Daegu, South Korea. The original post lists its hours as daily from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The parking lot was large, so I felt comfortable visiting by car.
The exterior is a large red-brick building. Its neat architectural form, without much ornamentation, stood out to me.

The café uses the second through fourth floors, and the rooftop is also available. There was space to enjoy the outdoor air as well as the interior.

What is on the menu, and how do you order?
There are coffee options including specialty coffee and hand-drip coffee, as well as desserts. Brunch, pasta, and waffles are also available, so it has options for having a meal with coffee.

We arrived just after a meal, so we saved the brunch I was curious about for another time. This time, we ordered an ice cream café latte, black sesame gâteau chocolate cake, and Teddy chocolate cake.

We ordered at a kiosk. Both the counter and kiosk are on the second floor.

How do the seating and atmosphere differ by floor?
Is the second floor good for groups to talk?
The second floor is where the counter is located. The carefully arranged details throughout the space gave me the feeling of being in a hotel.

The ceilings were high and the tables were widely spaced. I thought it would be easy for families, couples, friends, or larger groups to have their own conversations. With both the interior and the view to enjoy, the coffee prices felt reasonable to me.

How was the Geumho River view from the third floor, where we sat?
We sat on the third floor. Decorated in slightly dark wood tones, it felt spacious yet cozy and comfortable.

Light came in through the full-width windows, with an open view of the Geumho River and the resort park. I spent time looking at the blue daytime scenery, and it made me curious about how it would look in a different season or weather.

Are there floor seats and outdoor space on the fourth floor?
The fourth floor had a variety of chair and table styles, as well as floor seating. There was a cozy area on one side, where it was nice to see an elderly couple sitting and talking.

From the fourth-floor outdoor terrace, I could see the trees and Geumho River in a more open setting. I thought it would be nice to use on a cool day in spring or fall.
How were the ice cream café latte and cakes?
The desserts we had with coffee in the afternoon arrived. I paired the latte with the two cakes I chose because I wanted something dense and rich.

The ice cream café latte had the rich flavor of ice cream made with Sangha Milk. It was smooth rather than overly sweet, which I liked.

The black sesame gâteau chocolate cake and Teddy chocolate cake were visually eye-catching, too. They had a dense, firm texture, delivering the rich consistency I had hoped for, and went well with coffee.

What kind of gathering would make me want to return?
I would like to return with friends because I liked the Geumho River view and the spacious seating. This time I only had coffee and cake, but next time I would like to try the brunch I was curious about.
