What is Seventy Four Myeongdong Cathedral Main Branch?

I was looking for somewhere to eat in Myeongdong and ended up at Seventy Four Myeongdong Cathedral Main Branch. It's right next to Myeongdong Cathedral, and while the food was good, the outdoor terrace atmosphere really stood out. Especially on a nice day, you can eat while looking at Myeongdong Cathedral, so it felt like enjoying an outdoor dining vibe right in the middle of Myeongdong.

At first I just thought of it as a decent Myeongdong restaurant, but once I got there the space was bigger than I expected. There's indoor seating and outdoor terrace seating, so if the weather's good it's worth going for a terrace table. Even though it's right in the middle of Myeongdong, seeing the cathedral building together with the terrace gave it a completely different atmosphere from a typical restaurant. I thought it would be a good spot for a date or visiting with a foreign friend.

That day I ordered pizza and pasta together. Seventy Four has a variety of pizza options: the 74 Super Combination Pizza at ₩29,000, Arugula Prosciutto Pizza at ₩27,000, Mushroom Pizza at ₩27,000, and more.

Since the pizza is baked in a wood-fired oven, the dough was light and plain with a slightly crispy edge. Where the toppings sat, the cheese and ingredients blended together nicely, making it work better as a full meal than your typical pizza.

The Amatriciana we ordered alongside it paired surprisingly well too. The savory depth of the tomato sauce helped cut through the richness. If we'd just kept eating pizza it might have gotten a bit much, but pairing it with the Amatriciana pasta made for a good combination.

Personally, while looking for restaurants in Myeongdong, Seoul, what I liked most wasn't the food but the space itself. Being right next to Myeongdong Cathedral, you can see the cathedral's red brick building together with the terrace, and sitting in the outdoor seats gives a very different feel from a typical restaurant in downtown Seoul.

In the evening, the lighting adds even more to the atmosphere. So if you're after wood-fired pizza with an outdoor dining vibe, this seemed like a good place to enjoy both food and atmosphere at once. The indoor seating area is fairly spacious too, so on days with bad weather you can just eat inside. Reservations are available, so if you're visiting on a weekend or in the evening, it's more convenient to check ahead.

Being right next to Myeongdong Cathedral in particular made the meal feel a bit different. I'd like to try the other pizza menu items next time.
