Volcano roll and marble ice cream at Chuncheon sushi buffet: QooQoo

There's a clothing shop I like in Chuncheon, so on the way there I stopped at QooQoo first to fill up my stomach.

Basic info on QooQoo Chuncheon Branch

Go up from the parking lot to B1 and QooQoo is right there.

Where do you park?

You can use the building's underground parking lot, and even though it's pretty spacious, since there's also a CGV and a wedding hall in the same building, it wasn't easy to find a spot on the weekend.

Still, the lot goes down to B4 and is large enough that there were spots available. Up to 3 hours of parking support is offered too, so make sure to register your parking after eating.✨

September autumn discount and prices

All through September there's an autumn event giving ₩2,000 off, plus soldier and birthday discount events.

Took a quick look at the new menu items, and then went in to eat for real.🍽️

Weekend opening run — what's the atmosphere inside like?

I came for the opening run and it was already crowded, almost full. I only managed to take interior photos once some people had cleared out and left. Because of the soldier discount event there were a lot of soldiers, and plenty of families too.

The nursing room had a microwave and a diaper-changing table, and there were plenty of sturdy baby chairs available.

There's even a kids' room, so babies can have fun playing while parents eat comfortably.💯

Salad corner

QooQoo Chuncheon Branch's menu was really varied. Starting with the salad corner: lettuce, sweet pumpkin, mushroom salad, jellyfish salad, yukhoe (raw beef), and yogurt.

Sushi and seafood

Sushi is QooQoo's main event.🍣🍱 California rolls, gunkan (battleship) sushi, and nigiri all came in a huge variety, and the ingredients looked fresh.

The seafood corner had smoked salmon, jeomseongeo (a type of fish), sea snails, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), gejang (soy-marinated crab), and saeujang (soy-marinated shrimp).

Pizza, hot food, BBQ, noodles

There were two kinds of pizza — sweet potato and pancake pizza —

and for hot food there was tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties), dongjokyuk, kkwabaerou (Korean-style sweet and sour pork), dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken), soup, dogani-tang (ox knee cartilage soup), and pasta, kept warm on induction burners.

After sushi, BBQ was the other popular corner. There were kebab ingredients so you could assemble your own, and quite a variety of meats too — lamb, LA galbi, and smoked pork belly.

There was also delicious-looking fried food.

Noodles came in six kinds, starting with naengmyeon (cold noodles), and if you told the staff which ingredients you wanted, they'd make it for you.

Dessert corner

Last, the dessert corner had a chocolate fountain that gives you a sugar rush just looking at it, along with various baked goods and waffles.

There were new-menu crepes and a variety of fruit too.

Among the desserts, the ice cream selection was especially huge — soft serve, marble ice cream, and scoop ice cream.🍨🍧 With 8 flavors, it's almost Baskin-Robbins level.

Menus I tried and recommend

Since QooQoo is known for its sushi, I loaded up mostly on that. Among the tasty ones: for sashimi-style, raw salmon sushi and flounder-mugeunji (aged radish kimchi) sushi; for gunkan, spicy tuna wasabi; for rolls, tuna-perilla leaf roll and the volcano roll. The volcano roll especially seemed to be a new item — first time trying it — and the spicy sauce went really well with the tonkatsu (pork cutlet) inside.

Among the meats, the lamb had no gamy smell and was delicious, and the sweet and sour pork came out freshly fried, warm and crispy. The smoked pork belly had thick cuts of meat that weren't tough, easy to eat.

Of the desserts, the baked goods were decent, and the marble ice cream was so good I went back for it twice. I wanted more ice cream but could only manage two plates because I was too full.

What can a toddler eat here?

For food a baby could eat, there was plain rice, dogani-tang, pumpkin porridge, and soup — none too heavily seasoned, so it worked fine for a toddler.

Overall thoughts

True to its reputation as a sushi spot, the sushi selection was varied and the turnover was good, so everything tasted fresh. Best of all, with a nursing room and kids' room for children, it was a perfect spot for a family meal out — and with the soldier and birthday discount events plus the autumn discount running, I'd recommend visiting in September.〰️💪🏻
