Search for pasta or risotto in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon, and you'll find quite a few Italian restaurants with good atmosphere. This time I went to Bologna Daejeon Dunsan Branch.

This place isn't just somewhere that sells Italian food — it leads with the concept of authentic Bologna, Italy home-style cooking. Walking in, both the food and the space were built around that same direction, so I got to enjoy the atmosphere along with the meal.
Above all, this time I visited with my child, and kids' tableware, a kids' chair, and a kids' menu were all prepared separately, which made it easier to start the meal than I expected.
What is Bologna Daejeon Dunsan Branch like inside?
The store was filled with warm lighting and wood tones. Walking in, the overall atmosphere was the first thing that caught my eye.

Wood-toned floors and tables were paired with warm lighting, and the walls were packed with frames both large and small.

On one side there were wine bottles, and props reminiscent of Italy were placed here and there, giving it a slightly different feel from an ordinary casual restaurant. Sitting there in person, the sense of the space came through even more than in photos.
The lighting wasn't too bright, so the meal felt calm, and diners at every table blended naturally into the scene. The restaurant introduces Bologna as an Italian restaurant built on the authentic concept of Bologna, Italy home cooking, and that concept carried through in the space just as much as in the food.
What does Bologna offer for children?
Bologna Daejeon Dunsan Branch had a kids' menu, kids' tableware, and kids' chair prepared separately. This time I visited with my child, and sitting down to look at the menu, that detail caught my eye.

In particular, if there were ingredients kids can't eat, like pepper or pepperoncino, the staff asked first whether they should prepare things separately for us..♡ (so touched) At restaurants you sometimes realize too late after the food arrives, so having them ask ahead made the service feel really thoughtful.

Ciabatta and corn cream soup before the meal
Before the main dishes arrived, Bologna Daejeon Dunsan Branch first brought out ciabatta bread and corn cream soup. Tearing off pieces of warm bread and eating them alongside the soup made the meal feel like it was slowly getting started even before the mains came out.

The bread had a plainly baked, textured crust on the outside and a soft interior. The corn cream soup was a vivid yellow with a smooth cream base, pairing well with the bread. Nibbling on bread and spooning up soup while waiting for the mains, the table slowly started filling up.
Salmon salad, 8,000 won, with the spicy dressing on the side
One of the first dishes to arrive was the salmon salad at ₩8,000. A large plate was generously piled with leafy greens, with salmon, cherry tomatoes, and olives scattered throughout.

Cheese was finely grated on top, and dressing was evenly spread across the whole salad. It wasn't just vegetables — the salmon really stood out — so it made a good dish to pick at between courses when ordering several dishes together.
Having ordered a creamy risotto and a cheese-topped pizza, having a salad with vegetables and salmon on the table made the whole spread feel much more varied.
Gorgonzola pizza, 15,000 won, with pastry-like layered dough
The dish that stood out visually the most that day was the gorgonzola pizza at ₩15,000. Cheese generously covered the round dough, and the oven-baked surface showed golden-browned spots here and there.
Finely grated cheese was also scattered around the plate, so the cheese made its presence felt from the moment the pizza arrived. The dough wasn't like a regular pizza crust — it was layered like pastry.

Toward the center, the cheese and dough blended together. Cutting a slice, the cheese stretched softly along with the dough, and the first bite led with the flavor of the cheese. It's an easy dish to share slice by slice with several people, and it was one that hands kept reaching for that day.
Cube steak cream risotto, 18,000 won
The second main dish was the cube steak cream risotto at ₩18,000. This dish had a wide layer of cream risotto on the plate, topped with cube-cut pieces of steak placed one by one.

Grains of rice peeked through the cream sauce, with pieces of steak dotted across the top, making it clear at a glance that this was a dish for eating risotto and meat together. In particular, the steak wasn't left as one big chunk but cut into bite-sized pieces, making it easy to scoop up together with the risotto.
Pairing the soft cream risotto with golden-browned pieces of steak gave each spoonful a mix of different textures. Anyone who likes cream sauce dishes should keep this combination in mind.
Bolognese ragu pasta, 19,000 won
And the dish I was looking forward to most that day was the bolognese ragu pasta at ₩19,000. Bologna introduces ragu pasta as one of its signature dishes, using a ragu sauce simmered for four hours in the authentic Italian way, according to the restaurant.

Looking at the pasta that arrived, the ragu was thoroughly coated between the noodles, with minced meat and sauce wrapping around the pasta as a whole. Lifting the noodles with a fork brought up minced meat and sauce clinging to the wide strands.
Even in photos, the texture of the sauce and meat was quite vivid, and it had a heartier composition than a pasta simply topped with tomato sauce. In particular, with each bite the sauce didn't sit separately — it was thoroughly coated on the noodles, so the sense of eating the pasta and the ragu together really came through.
Just from the name, ragu pasta might sound similar to a tomato sauce pasta, but seeing the actual plate, the weight of the meat and sauce was unmistakable. Given Bologna's concept of Bologna home cooking, this bolognese ragu pasta was, among the dishes ordered that day, the most directly connected to that concept.
All four Bologna dishes on one table
With pizza, risotto, pasta, and salad all laid out together, the table became quite full. The cheese-centered gorgonzola pizza, the risotto with cream sauce and cube steak, the pasta with meat and ragu sauce, and the refreshing salmon salad on the side — each had a different character.
Sharing several dishes rather than eating just one made the differences between them stand out more. Visiting with a child, there was still plenty to choose from for the adults, and having a kids' menu and tableware prepared separately made the meal that much easier.
Looking through the menu, there were more options than expected. Bologna's menu includes not just pasta and risotto but pizza, salads, gnocchi, and other Italian dishes. In particular, the restaurant introduces ragu pasta and truffle cream gnocchi as its signature dishes, and the pasta lineup ranges from ragu-based dishes to cream varieties. This time we picked mostly what we wanted to eat, but next time I'd like to try some of the other dishes too.
Herb blend salt handed over after paying
After the meal, we were given salt in a small glass bottle. Not just regular salt — they said it was an herb-blended salt — and they gave us three that day.

They said it's fine to use for cooking at home, and being packaged in a small glass bottle, it really was a touching gesture right to the end.
A Dunsan-dong meal with atmosphere to match
What stayed with me about Bologna Daejeon Dunsan Branch wasn't just the food — it was how the space and the food followed a single concept together.

The warm lighting, wood-tone interior, walls filled with frames and wine bottles, and the food on the table all led in one direction. I visited with a child, but the atmosphere was relaxed enough to feel natural for a family meal, and the space itself was calm enough to suit a date or a blind date if you wanted somewhere with a bit more mood.

Bologna Daejeon Dunsan Branch: honest verdict after visiting
This time, visiting with a child made for a different meal than a quiet one just among adults, but that's exactly what let me pay closer attention to the kids' service and the food lineup.

Starting with pre-meal bread and soup, then slowly sharing the salmon salad, gorgonzola pizza, cube steak cream risotto, and bolognese ragu pasta made for a fairly full meal. What impressed me most was how the concept of Bologna home cooking carried through naturally in both the food and the interior.
If you're looking for an Italian restaurant in Dunsan-dong where you can enjoy the food and the space together, rather than just eating pasta, this is a place worth remembering. Next time it'd be fun to pick from the dishes I didn't get to try this time.
