Cheonan chicken stew with fried mandu and cheese fried rice: Sottture

In short

Sottture Dakdoritang is a chicken stew restaurant in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan, just five minutes on foot from Lotte Mart. This visit — the writer's fifth — added fried mandu to dip in the sauce and finished with cheese fried rice. A hearty meal that suits 2-3 people.

Today I'm introducing a hearty Korean restaurant in Seongjeong-dong — Sottture Dakdoritang. It's about a 5-minute walk from Lotte Mart, so it's easy to find.

5 minutes from Lotte Mart, a Seongjeong-dong lunch spot

Sottture Dakdoritang is located in Seongjeong-dong, so it's great when you're looking for somewhere to eat nearby. It's especially close to Lotte Mart, so it's convenient to stop by while grocery shopping or running errands in the area. If you're looking for a Seongjeong-dong lunch spot, this is worth a visit.

Just one menu item, dakdoritang — how much do you get?

They don't have a bunch of different menu items, just dakdoritang, which was actually convenient. No agonizing over what to order — just order according to your headcount. The dakdoritang portion is quite generous, good for 2-3 people to share. The chicken pieces are big and meaty, so it never felt like there wasn't enough.

The sauce and the chicken-shaped egg

The sauce was especially good — not too intense, more the kind of flavor that goes well with rice. Dip the chicken deep in the sauce and you'll finish a bowl of rice in no time haha. When you first order, they bring out an egg, and it's so cute how the egg gets shaped into a little chicken lol. That kind of small detail was surprisingly fun.

The dakdoritang comes with chicken, of course, plus potato, green onion, and rice cake. The chicken pieces are on the bigger side, and the potato really soaks up the sauce nicely. If you like rice cake, it's fun to pick those out here and there haha. It also cooked faster than I expected, so we didn't have to wait long before digging in.

Personally, though, I'd recommend letting it simmer a bit longer to reduce the broth. Once the broth cooks down from where it started, the sauce soaks into the ingredients more deeply and it tastes much better.

Definitely add the fried mandu

Here's what I really want to recommend: add the fried mandu (dumplings)! Crispy fried dumplings dipped in the dakdoritang sauce are so good. They're tasty on their own, but eating them with the dakdoritang sauce gives them a whole different vibe. Popping a dumpling in between bites of stew is a really nice combo.

Finish with cheese fried rice

And the truly important part: cheese fried rice. You have to eat this one lol. Even if you're already full from the dakdoritang, don't skip the cheese fried rice. You can pack up leftover stew to go, but the fried rice needs to be eaten there on the spot.

Rice fried in the sauce, topped with cheese — the perfect way to finish. Maybe because the dakdoritang sauce itself is so good, the fried rice made from it tastes even better. It's the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching for more even when you're full, and I ended up cleaning the plate haha. Overall, the portions are generous and the chicken is big, making it a great spot for 2-3 people.

Takeout and sauce refills available

It's great that you can get takeout. And the sauce is refillable! If you feel like you're running low while eating, you can ask for more, which is nice.

Personally, I'd recommend not overeating the dakdoritang at first and instead pacing yourself for the fried rice at the end. Because here, that final fried rice is genuinely delicious lol. Especially the cheese fried rice — you really have to eat it. Even when you're pretty full from the stew, there's somehow still room for the fried rice 😂 I usually pack up any leftover stew but always eat the fried rice at the restaurant.

I've visited around 5 times now, so it's a place I personally really like — if you're looking for dakdoritang or dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken) in Seongjeong-dong, I'd recommend it.

It's convenient when you don't want to think about what to order, and great when you want a hearty Korean meal. I'd recommend it if you're looking for dakdoritang or dakbokkeumtang in Seongjeong-dong, or a Seongjeong-dong lunch spot or Korean restaurant. Especially, the cheese fried rice at the end is a must 🤍
