My hair color fades quickly even when I dye it, so I get an all-over color regularly. At some point, though, the damage became pretty severe, and whenever I went to a salon asking for a perm, I often heard, “Because your hair is damaged, the curls may not come out nicely.”ㅠㅠ

But if I kept coloring it and using a curling iron every morning, I thought my hair would get even more damaged… So this time, I looked for a Suyu hair salon that really knows damaged-hair perms and booked Salon de Chae Suyu Branch near Suyu Station!

To give you the conclusion first, I was so satisfied because even my damaged hair came out with lovely, natural curls! It had been almost 6–7 years since my last perm, so I honestly had mixed feelings, but I was amazed that a perm worked on my hair too, haha.

Salon de Chae Suyu Branch is about a five-minute walk from Exit 6 of Suyu Station. Since it is not far from the station, it was conveniently located for taking public transportation after a time-consuming treatment such as a perm or color. Walk a little into the alley where you can see the Suyu Lotteria, and it is on the second floor of the corner building, so it was easy to find even on my first visit, haha.

Parking is available for visitors arriving by car, too. There is a mechanical parking garage down the alley to the right of the building, with up to two hours of free parking. I was told that larger vehicles can use the ground-level parking at Uam Sense View next to the salon building or the underground parking at the Gyeongnam Honorsville building. There was a bus that goes directly from in front of my home, so I comfortably took the bus that day :)

As soon as you go up to the second floor, you will see Salon de Chae Suyu Branch. The interior was decorated mainly in white and beige, giving it an overall warm, comfortable feel. The seats for cuts and treatments were neatly arranged, and there was also a spacious table where you could wait during a perm.

An especially thorough consultation for damaged hair

Because I had booked in advance, Designer Yuri showed me to my seat as soon as I arrived. Rather than starting the treatment right away, we first had a thorough consultation about the style I wanted and my hair’s current condition 🤗

What I was most worried about that day was whether a perm would even be possible on my damaged hair!! Another salon had turned me down for a perm because of the damage before, so I was really worried about whether the curls would come out properly this time tooㅠㅠ

So I first told Designer Yuri what perm style I wanted and had her check my current hair condition. The photo above was one I found to show the style I had in mind, but honestly, since my hair is fine and damaged, I was not even expecting it to turn out quite that well, hahaha.

I wanted not overly strong waves, but soft S-curls and C-curls falling naturally with a layered cut. I loved that she understood exactly what I wanted!! 🤗 Rather than simply saying, “It’s possible,” she also explained in detail which parts we needed to be careful with given my current hair condition.

My hair had color damage and is naturally curly, so I was told that perming the sides could make them look even frizzier 😂 So we discussed preserving the overall curls while straightening only the necessary parts at the sides to control the frizz. Since my hair was damaged, she also explained that it would be good to do a clinic treatment at the same time. Rather than pushing ahead with only a perm, she set the treatment direction with my hair condition in mind. Having all of this explained fully beforehand made me feel much more comfortable leaving it in her hands, haha.

After the consultation, we started by washing my hair and checking its condition once more. Once it was washed, you could tell just by looking at the back that it was curly!! Then she applied perm solution suited to my damaged hair, checking it as she worked, which I liked! ☺️

She paid close attention to the clinic-treatment process even when I went over for shampooing. I had worried that perming damaged hair would make it feel rougher, but it felt like she was caring for my hair throughout the treatment, and I really liked that ♥️

Once the perm solution application and shampooing were done, she started setting the curls in earnest!! My Suyu layered perm used C-curls on the lower hair and S-curls on the upper hair. The lower section had C-curls that fell naturally inward, while the top had S-curls, so the style flowed naturally instead of looking overly tight and curly.

Throughout the heat-perm process, she kept checking whether it was too hot or whether I was uncomfortable. I appreciated those thoughtful details too, haha.

After the heat perm was finished, the rollers came out, and during the finishing process, the sides were straightened as well. As we had discussed earlier, because my hair is naturally curly, adding curls alone to the sides could make the overall look seem frizzy. So she straightened only the necessary parts of the sides so that the overall style would connect neatly 👏👏👏

I liked that it felt like she added only the treatments I needed, taking into account my hair’s condition and degree of curliness, rather than simply doing the perm I asked for 👍 Best of all, because she had fully explained the process beforehand, it did not feel like extra treatments were suddenly being added!!

And then, finally, all the treatments were done. After washing my hair, we dried it—and this was honestly the moment that surprised me most, haha. Curls could come out like this just from drying my hair?! I got exactly the natural curls I wanted!

With the S-curls and C-curls blending naturally into the layered cut, it did not look overly styled, but it was not lacking in curls either—it was exactly the style I had wanted!! 🙌🙌🙌 I had been worried that the perm itself would not take well because my hair was damaged, but the curls came out prettier than I expected, so I was really satisfied. It was a style I had wanted for a long time, and perhaps because it was my first perm in nearly 6–7 years, I liked the finished look even more, haha.

Tips for keeping the curls at home

Designer Yuri also explained in detail how to dry my hair and bring out the curls at home. It is important for a perm to look pretty at the salon, but how you care for it at home matters too, right? 🤗 She showed me how I should normally dry my hair and which direction to shape the curls, so it was easy to follow at home. Thanks to that, these days I can style my hair naturally without spending ages with a curling iron every morning, haha.

I had a lot of worries because it had been so long since I had gotten a perm, but in the end I was satisfied with the natural layered perm I wanted—one that is easy to manage! 🙏🙏🙏 I think I was even happier because the curls came out beautifully on my hair, which I had thought would be difficult to perm because it was damaged, haha.
