Samcheok gastropub near Chuam Beach: 25,000-won omakase, Bomulseom

In short

Samcheok Bomulseom is an ocean-view gastropub right in front of Jeungsan Beach in Samcheok, Gangwon, a five-minute walk from Sol Beach Samcheok. Although Samcheok Bomulseom is a drinking spot, it also serves lunch, and this visit was a 25,000-won-per-person lunch omakase for two eaten at an upper-floor window seat: kimchi pancake, bossam (boiled pork with wrappers), abalone innards fried rice, soy sauce marinated crab, doenjang hot pot and soy-braised pork stir-fry. The line-up changes with the season, so Samcheok Bomulseom is worth another visit on the next Gangwon trip.

A great restaurant near Chuam Beach and Sol Beach Samcheok, with a gorgeous ocean view.

Omakase in Samcheok?! Samcheok Bomulseom let me eat a filling meal of fresh dishes at a great price. It's technically a bar, but lunch is available too, and eating while looking out at Chuam Beach was so nice. The interior is so pretty it almost felt like being on an overseas trip.

Where is Samcheok Bomulseom, and when is it open?

Samcheok Bomulseom's exterior and menu

It's about a 5-minute walk from Sol Beach Samcheok — walk along the Chuam beach path and you'll arrive right at Jeungsan Beach, where it's located. So it's an ocean-view restaurant, and the omakase price is posted right at the entrance, which builds a lot of trust. Being able to enjoy a lunch omakase for ₩25,000... amazing.

Upper-floor window seats with an ocean view

The interior of Samcheok Bomulseom is largely split into two halls — go inside and up the stairs to the upper floor, and there's another hall.

We got a window seat with an ocean view where you can see the sea and sand at a glance. The interior design is so pretty — even the floor tiles are lovely. A slight Bali vibe.

The table had wet wipes and a bottle of water, neatly kept.

What comes with the 25,000-won lunch omakase for two

First setting of the lunch omakase for two

The menu is simple, so we ordered the omakase for two as lunch. Dishes were set one by one — the doenjang hot pot came out generously portioned, and it was nice being able to simmer it right at the table.

The atmosphere was great and the view was really pretty, so we waited until everything was set up for a full shot. This is a place worth recommending as a Sol Beach Samcheok restaurant.

Since it's omakase, there were plenty of unique dishes. The plating was so pretty — this is exactly why people go for omakase.

Beautifully plated omakase dishes

Kimchi pancake and bossam (boiled pork with wrappers)

Now let's introduce the dishes one by one at this Chuam Beach restaurant — starting with the kimchi pancake (kimchijeon). It was crispy, a good size, and browned nicely. So crispy and delicious.

Bossam (boiled pork wraps) came out too. The pork belly was moist and properly boiled, soft.

Wrap it in lettuce with garlic and chili and take a bite — no gamey taste at all, moist and delicious. I thought this place would only serve seafood, but meat too?!

Abalone innards fried rice

Abalone fried rice? Rice stir-fried with abalone innards, topped with abalone, baby octopus, and shrimp. And innards on the side too.

Lots of innards — dipping into it is savory and good. The fried rice was fluffy with a strong buttery aroma, right up my alley.

Savory abalone innards sauce

The plating was so pretty too — definitely a cut above the usual Sol Beach Samcheok restaurant fare. Both the baby octopus and abalone were tender, not chewy, cooked soft and savory.

Softly cooked abalone and baby octopus

Dip generously into the innard sauce — ate the abalone meat first, then had the fried rice along with it.

Shrimp was also mixed evenly on top of the fried rice — the varied bite was fun, and since the rice was stir-fried al dente, you actually felt the rice's texture more than the seafood's. The seafood was so soft it melted in your mouth.

The highlight: soy sauce marinated crab

Next up, the highlight of this Chuam Beach restaurant — soy sauce marinated crab (ganjang gejang), topped with minari and chili, plus rice served separately.

Plenty of roe in the shell to mix with rice — so good.

It was prepped ready to eat, so with plastic gloves on, I dug right in!

Prepped soy crab meat ready to eat

Put a spoonful of rice in the shell first and mix it up — the crab sauce wasn't too salty, so it went down easy.

For the crab meat, I decided to squeeze it onto the rice and mix it all together.

There was so much crab meat — the sauce was sweetish, an absolute rice thief. Mixing it up made it easy to eat, and adding baby octopus on top made it even better! The umami exploded. Definitely worth recommending as a Sol Beach Samcheok restaurant.

Doenjang hot pot (soybean paste stew)

The doenjang was practically hot-pot level in quantity — the broth had a miso-doenjang taste, mild and understated, making me keep scooping it up.

Doenjang broth as hearty as a hot pot

Fished out a big chunk of tofu too — soft and melting in the mouth. The doenjang wasn't too salty, which was great. It was such a shame to leave any broth behind.

Soy-braised pork stir-fry and tofu kimchi

The soy garlic pork stir-fry had a spicy, punchy flavor, well stir-fried with no gamey smell.

Whether piled on the tofu kimchi or wrapped up in a lettuce wrap, it was so tasty — everything here hits the spot. The dishes at this Chuam Beach restaurant were all exactly to my taste.

Is Samcheok Bomulseom a good date spot near Sol Beach Samcheok?

Good value for lunch, with a nice interior and view — a great course for a date. Enjoying the view slowly with my partner was lovely. Next time I'm near Sol Beach Samcheok, I'd love to come back. Since the omakase lineup changes each season, I'll definitely visit again on my next trip to Gangwon-do.
