Hanok-style Gimpo shabu-shabu with garlic sauce onsuyuk: Homilwon
In short
Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant on Geolpo-ro in Gimpo, Gyeonggi. Two people ordered the Full Table Special Sanghwang Shabu Kalguksu at 19,900 won per person, which brought master's onsuyuk (boiled pork), jjukkumi (spicy octopus) stir-fry, mushroom shabu kalguksu and fried rice, plus unlimited beef radish rice from the self-serve bar. The garlic sauce served with the onsuyuk and the misugaru (roasted grain drink) dessert were the highlights of an easy family dinner in a hanok-style dining room.

I went looking for a warm, filling meal in Gimpo and ended up at Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu. This is a place where you can enjoy shabu-shabu and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) together, and the menu is pretty substantial, so it's a good pick when you want a proper full meal. We ordered the Full Table Special Sanghwang Shabu Kalguksu that day — onsuyuk (boiled pork), jjukkumi (spicy octopus) stir-fry, shabu kalguksu, and fried rice all in one go, which was really satisfying 🙂🤍

Where is Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch, and when is it open?
Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is located at 142-17 Geolpo-ro, Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, with last order at 20:10.

The parking space in front of the restaurant is very, very spacious, so no worries there!!

Inside the hanok-style dining room at Homilwon
Walking into Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch, the overall hanok-style (traditional Korean house style) interior caught my eye right away. It has a quiet, timeworn atmosphere, but the space itself is kept clean and tidy

which made it a comfortable spot for a family meal or just eating out casually. You might picture shabu-shabu restaurants as having cluttered, busy tables, but everything here felt orderly, so it stayed comfortable throughout the meal.

What comes with the 19,900-won Full Table Special?
What we ordered was the Full Table Special Sanghwang Shabu Kalguksu. It's ₩19,900 per person, and we ordered for two. True to its name, the table ends up quite loaded — master's onsuyuk and smoky jjukkumi stir-fry, then mushroom shabu kalguksu, beef, and fried rice, served one after another. Dishes kept coming out from the start, so much that it was hard to decide what to eat first.

It's not an exaggeration to say people come to Homilwon just for the beef radish rice — it's that good. Definitely use the self-serve bar!

True to its name, the mushroom shabu came loaded with mushrooms!

The mushroom shabu kalguksu, generously packed
Of course the main dish, shabu kalguksu, can't be left out. Since it's shabu-shabu simmered with mushrooms and beef, once the broth started boiling the mushroom aroma and meaty flavor built up together. Eating the beef and mushrooms in that warm broth gave a completely different feel from the onsuyuk and jjukkumi I'd eaten earlier.

And at the end you get to add the kalguksu noodles, so within one menu item you actually get to enjoy several different dishes, which I liked.

Tender master's onsuyuk and the garlic sauce that goes with it
The first thing I tried was the master's onsuyuk. The texture was really tender and pleasant — not dry at all, easy and soft to chew

and pairing it with the garlic sauce really brought the savory depth to life. This garlic sauce in particular was genuinely delicious. The onsuyuk was already good on its own, but with the sauce the flavor got so much richer — the kind of taste where one bite just keeps you reaching for another.

Jjukkumi stir-fry with real smoky char
And personally, one dish that stood out was the jjukkumi stir-fry. The jjukkumi wasn't chewy at all — really tender

and above all, you could really taste that smoky char. The smokiness lingered subtly, giving it a different appeal from a plain spicy jjukkumi stir-fry. The onsuyuk was mild and soft, while the jjukkumi was spicy with a strong smoky kick — alternating between the two made a great combination.

Finishing the pot with kalguksu noodles and fried rice
After the shabu-shabu, it's fried rice to finish. Following a soup-based meal with fried rice made for a really solid, filling ending.

Why the misugaru dessert steals the meal
And after finishing the meal, the misugaru we had for dessert was way more delicious than I expected. After eating so much meat and shabu-shabu, finishing off with a nutty, sweet misugaru hit exactly right. Personally, out of everything I ate that day, that final misugaru left the strongest impression, haha.
Is Homilwon worth it for shabu-shabu in Gimpo?
The Full Table Special I had at Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch really did live up to its name — a table full of food.
- A generous set for ₩19,900 per person
- Tender master's onsuyuk
- The garlic sauce and onsuyuk combination
- Smoky, tender jjukkumi stir-fry
- Mushroom shabu kalguksu
- A well-rounded course with beef, kalguksu, and fried rice
- Unlimited self-serve beef radish rice
- A nutty misugaru dessert after the meal
If you want to try a variety of dishes in one sitting, the Full Table Special seems like a great fit. Especially with the onsuyuk and jjukkumi stir-fry served together, it felt much more abundant than just having shabu-shabu alone.
