Does everyone like espresso? I was wondering what flavor to try, and then I had this insanely good chocolate espresso at an espresso bar and fell in love!! I heard there's a great espresso bar in Yeonnam-dong too, so I went to check it out! This is Yeonnam-dong café Pip Espresso Bar!

Location and hours
It's about an 11-minute walk from Hongik University Station Exit 3! Right in Yeonnam-dong!
- ☕ Hours: Daily 09:00–23:00
- 👌 Restroom: Outside the store, shared men/women

You need to enter through the door facing the street to reach the counter right away!

It was raining so I couldn't fully enjoy it, but there are outdoor seats too!

Interior atmosphere and seating
The inside was bigger than I expected!

The vibe looks like this!

Modern and simple, exactly my style! The tables weren't cramped, and there wasn't just uncomfortable seating — I really liked that.

I'm not usually a fan of dim cafés, and I wondered if it was a bit dark, but one side has a full window letting in plenty of sunlight, so it was totally fine!

They'll turn on the light you want
There are various lamps next to the counter too, and if you ask staff, they'll turn on whichever one you want :)

I especially liked this wall light! It felt quite upscale, with a shimmering kind of glow — great taste from the owner.

Menu and prices
The menu at Yeonnam-dong's Pip Espresso Bar! True to an espresso bar, it has everything from various espresso drinks to non-coffee options and even alcohol like cocktails!!

There were sample photos next to it too, which made choosing dessert so much easier!

They had financiers too, and the smell was incredible — I really wanted one, but our target was the tiramisu!!
- Con Panna Mascarpone ₩4,500
- Pip Coffee ₩7,500
- Tiramisu Banana Crumble ₩9,500
The espresso menu has two price tiers: the table price and the standing price! If you're seated, the first drink is ₩4,500 for any menu item, and from the second drink onward it's the standing price!

There are also free café logo stickers! Great for decorating a diary as a keepsake, so I grabbed one myself haha

Weekday happy hour, buy one get one
During the happy hour event, weekdays from 5 to 7pm have a buy-one-get-one deal on beer and spritz, so it's nice for a simple early-evening drink, right?

The coffee came out fast!! So exciting

How was the tiramisu banana crumble
First, the tiramisu banana crumble — it's incredibly soft!

That said, the espresso flavor pops strongly and is quite intense, so the mascarpone cream cheese alongside it kind of gets lost? And as for calling it "banana," unless you eat it together with actual banana, the banana flavor doesn't really come through :(

Still, since the espresso itself is exactly my type — bitter and strong — I liked it! I just wish the banana flavor were stronger! I saw strawberry on the menu too, but it's presumably (?) a seasonal item that will show up in winter! I feel like strawberry would taste even better!

Con Panna Mascarpone
Con Panna Mascarpone is a combination of espresso + mascarpone cream!

You just eat it with a spoon, and it's similar to the tiramisu from before, but somehow I liked it even more than the tiramisu?! I think it's because my expectations were: banana tiramisu = full banana flavor, sweet and fun! Espresso = bitter coffee flavor with soft cream! And this matched that expectation better.

The Earl Grey-based Pip Coffee — you must try this
Still, the Pip Coffee — Earl Grey base + espresso + cream, everyone? You have to try this. If you like Earl Grey, seriously, you have to try it.
📢 This is so good!!!!!!!!!!!

The cream on top is sweet, chewy, and soft, and I was curious how espresso would work with this Earl Grey base — it was so much better than I expected!! Good enough that I want to know what base they used!
They told me to drink half plain and mix the other half, and even mixed it was delicious ㅠㅠ It turns creamy like a latte. Completely unexpected menu item and I ended up feeling like it was absolutely amazing.

Final thoughts
I heard this café got a Blue Ribbon award, and now I get why hahaha. The taste and the atmosphere were both perfect at Yeonnam-dong's Pip Espresso Bar!!! I'm planning to go back!! If you love coffee, I recommend visiting!!👍👍
