Lots of people love lamb, but some people find its distinctive aroma a little intimidating, you know? 🥹 This time, I visited Hwaro Yangmi (화로양미), a fantastic lamb-skewer spot with none of that characteristic lamb smell at all—no need to worry! 🙌
Hwaro Yangmi offers a wide range of cuts, from lamb ribs and loin to lamb oyster blade, lamb belly, and lamb skewers. My companion was worried about the lamb aroma too, but ate so well that I was even happier with the visit.
Hwaro Yangmi location and atmosphere

Hwaro Yangmi is about a three-minute walk from Exit 4 of Ttukseom Station. It is really close to the station, so getting there was easy! 🙌

The dining room was spacious and pleasant, so it looked great for groups too. There were quite a few group diners when I visited 😊

I really liked how generously spaced the tables were.

Each table has its own charcoal brazier for grilling, which really gives it that proper lamb-specialty-restaurant feel 🔥
Lamb and Chinese-style side dishes
Hwaro Yangmi had plenty of options, from a lamb assortment for trying several cuts at once to individual dishes such as lamb belly and lamb ribs 🥩

There were lots of side dishes beyond the grilled meats too. They offer various Chinese-style dishes, including mala xiang guo, guobaorou (sweet-and-sour fried pork), and egg tomato. I heard the fish-fragrant eggplant and guobaorou are especially popular sides 🙌

There was a good variety of alcohol too, so it looked like a nice place to have a drink with your meat, and they even have a wine vending machine.
The lamb assortment and lamb belly we ordered for three
The three of us visited that day and ordered the 550g lamb assortment, 200g lamb belly, 200g lamb skewers, and guobaorou as a side 🙌

At the table, you can choose from wasabi, cumin, and salt, as well as whole-grain sauce and a special pickled-mushroom sauce 😮

The complimentary sides were peanuts, seasoned shredded radish, and zhacai pickles.

The lamb assortment we ordered as our main came with lamb ribs, lamb loin, lamb oyster blade, and lamb belly.

The meat quality was especially excellent, and Hwaro Yangmi uses chilled Australian lamb!! They said that, unlike frozen lamb, it has none of that gamey aroma 💖

It really had no smell, so even my aroma-sensitive companion ate it here with zero hesitation. The owner grills every item personally, cooking each cut one at a time to its best doneness, which was so convenient ♥️

With the owner’s skilled grilling on top of that, the meat stayed properly juicy inside 🤤

The meat was delicious with a little wasabi on top, dipped in salt or cumin too.

It also paired really well with a little whole-grain sauce or wasabi.

Personally, I thought the combination with the house-made pickled-mushroom sauce was seriously delicious 💛

Extra lamb belly and hand-grilled lamb skewers
Every cut was tasty, but it was my first time trying lamb belly, and it tasted like a mix of pork jowl and marinated galbi. It was good enough that we even ordered more! 😮
The extra lamb skewers were grilled in such a unique way too!! Most lamb-skewer restaurants use an automatic rotating machine, but at Hwaro Yangmi, the owner turns each one by hand 🔥

With a machine, one side can sometimes overcook or burn, but because they are turned by hand, they cooked evenly all over. And each piece of lamb on the skewers was much bigger than I expected!!
The meat itself was chunkier than standard lamb skewers, so it had a really satisfying chew. The owner said this size is also a characteristic of a regional lamb-skewer style 🙌

Guobaorou as a side
We ordered guobaorou as a side, and the ratio of crisp batter to meat was really good.

It was not the kind with only a thick coating—there was plenty of meat inside too, making it nicely chewy 👍

The sauce was not overly salty or sweet and coated it just right, so it was easy to enjoy until the end. Having a piece between bites of lamb changed up the flavor nicely, so I recommend ordering it as a side too 💛
If you are worried about lamb aroma
Hwaro Yangmi was a great place not only for lamb lovers, but also for anyone who usually feels hesitant because of lamb’s distinctive aroma 😊

There was hardly any of lamb’s characteristic gamey aroma, and above all, the owner personally grilled every cut at its most delicious, so we could fully enjoy the quality of the meat 🥰

If you are looking for a delicious lamb restaurant in Seongsu or Ttukseom, I would love to recommend Hwaro Yangmi 🥩🔥👍
