Seoul coffee shop selling beans by 200g-1kg in Mangwon: PICT Roastery

I was looking for a place in Mangwon-dong to grab a meal and a coffee afterward, and that's how I ended up at PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch.

It's close to both Mangwon Station and Mangwon Market, so it's easy to swing by while exploring the neighborhood. More than that, it's a roastery café that brews with beans it roasts in-house, so coffee lovers should give it a try at least once.

On this visit we had two iced americanos plus a matcha Basque cheesecake.

Bottom line: the coffee was strong and delicious, and the matcha Basque cheesecake paired with it really well.

PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch is at 45 World Cup-ro 23-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, 1st floor. It's about a 5-minute walk from Mangwon Station Exit 2, so it wasn't hard to find. Mangwon Market is nearby too, so it's a good stop for coffee after browsing the market, or a quick rest during a date around Mangridan-gil.

That said, since the neighborhood doesn't really allow for dedicated store parking, it's best to use a nearby public lot if you're driving. I walked over that day, and the alleys around the area had a nice atmosphere to stroll through.

A specialty roastery that roasts and brews on site

PICT Roastery is apparently a specialty roastery café that recently opened in Mangwon-dong, following its Magongnaru location.

They handle everything from roasting green beans to extracting the coffee in-house, which might be why there was a faint, pleasant coffee aroma the moment I walked in.

Rather than a big café with an enormous menu, it felt more focused on the coffee itself. They roast single origins and blends weekly, and the lineup changes depending on the season.

From nutty, chocolate-forward beans to floral, acidic ones, there's apparently a wide range to try, so coffee lovers will have fun picking their beans.

☕ Two iced americanos made with nutty beans

We ordered two iced americanos that day. Both were made with nutty-style beans, and since I personally prefer nutty, rich coffee over anything with strong acidity, it suited my taste well. Even as an iced americano, the coffee flavor came through quite strongly, which I liked.

These days a lot of coffee shops go light and mild, but I like it when the coffee flavor is this clear, so I was satisfied. Especially paired with dessert, the coffee's bitterness nicely balanced the sweetness, which made them work even better together.

If you're looking for a Mangwon-dong café that prioritizes coffee flavor over just a pretty vibe, a roastery café like this one fits the bill.

🍵 Matcha Basque cheesecake at PICT Roastery

Coffee alone felt like it wasn't quite enough, so we also ordered the matcha Basque cheesecake. I like matcha desserts and had high expectations, and it ended up suiting my taste better than I thought. It wasn't just sweet — it had a moderate sweetness alongside matcha's characteristic bitterness.

The dense, custardy texture typical of Basque cheesecake worked well with the matcha's bitterness, and it paired nicely with the strong iced americano too. Personally, I'd recommend ordering a dessert to share rather than just drinking coffee. There are so many pretty cafés in Mangwon-dong these days, but finding one where both the coffee and the dessert are actually good isn't that easy — and PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch nailed that combination.

So if you're hunting for a good dessert spot in Mangwon, the matcha Basque cheesecake is worth trying.

The interior was also to my liking. It felt clean overall and let in plenty of natural light, so visiting during the day made the space feel even prettier. Good for photos and also comfortable for sitting quietly with your coffee.

I especially liked that it didn't feel awkward to visit alone. There are single seats as well as group seating, so it works whether you're coming solo for coffee or with friends or a partner. I personally prefer cafés that aren't too loud, where you can chat over coffee or just spend time alone, and PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch had that kind of feel.

And one thing that quietly impressed me — the restroom!

Even the restroom was kept nicely scented, which left a good impression afterward. Paying attention to details like this made the whole store feel well managed.

🫘 Buying beans in 200g, 500g and 1kg bags

At PICT Roastery, you can also buy the beans they roast in-house. They come in 200g, 500g, and 1kg bags, which looked good for home use or as a gift. Notably, instead of selling from pre-roasted stock, they sell freshly roasted beans straight from the store.

If you brew your own coffee at home, it'd be nice to take home the beans you tried at the café and continue the experience there.

Is PICT Roastery worth it after Mangwon Market?

For anyone looking for a café between Mangwon Station and Mangwon Market, the location is pretty convenient. It works well as a stop for dessert and coffee after eating at Mangwon Market, or for takeout before or after a walk at Mangwon Hangang Park. I especially liked the nutty, strong iced americano I had this time, and the matcha Basque cheesecake wasn't too sweet, so it went well with the coffee.

Above all, sitting in that bright space and taking my time over coffee really let me feel Mangwon-dong's comfortable, atmospheric charm.
