They said the interior of Euljiro Yeontan Gui's Buldang branch was designed to bring the nostalgic feel of a charcoal-grill joint straight from Euljiro's back alleys! The layout has round tables with charcoal grills set into them.

An early 4:30pm dinner: what we ordered

For our first order we got 2 servings of pork belly and 1 of pork neck! Then we added 2 servings of gochujang pork belly, 1 mul-naengmyeon, 1 bibim-naengmyeon, doenjang stew, and rice!

We went for an early dinner around 4:30, but from past 5pm on, more and more customers kept coming in! My friend, who's a regular here, said she comes about once every two months when meeting up with friends! That's how good this place must be, right?

It's a retro-style grill house with that outdoor-tent feel, and since the weather was nice, they opened up the big picture window, which really gave it that indoor-outdoor atmosphere!

There are lots of sleek, modern grill houses these days, but sitting at a round table grilling meat over charcoal like the old days has its own charm!!

From pork cuts to seafood: the full menu at Euljiro Yeontan Gui

Euljiro Yeontan Gui Buldang branch has more than just pork belly — pork neck, pork jowl, raw galmaegisal (skirt meat) and other pork cuts are all on offer. And here's what was a bit unusual! For a grill house, they also have a wide variety of seafood options 🦑🦪

From spicy grilled squid to scallops, cortina shell, and sea squirt, you can enjoy both meat and seafood in one spot — it seemed like it'd be great for a group with different tastes to pick from!

Pork belly in particular is priced pretty reasonably per serving, and lots of reviews said it's a good spot to visit for a casual bite of meat!!

Side dishes and self-serve refills

The basic side dishes are assorted sauces, kimchi, and bean sprouts, and eating them together with the pork belly was really delicious!!!! The price is reasonable too — totally recommend!!!

Extra side dishes are self-serve, and it was nice being able to just grab more whenever we wanted!

Pork belly over briquette charcoal: how smoky is it?

Euljiro Yeontan Gui's biggest draw is grilling the meat over real charcoal! The moment the meat hits the grill, you get that sizzling sound along with the distinct smoky charcoal aroma drifting up!!

Take a bite of that golden-brown pork belly and the savory juices mix with the smoky flavor — delicious on its own, and just as good wrapped in lettuce!! Grilling it over charcoal definitely gives it a richer, deeper flavor than cooking at home 🤤

Finishing with naengmyeon: mul or bibim?

You've got to finish a meal at a grill house with naengmyeon (cold noodles) to feel like you've really eaten properly haha

Personally I liked the mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) more than the bibim version, so next time I think I'll order mul-naengmyeon! Meat and naengmyeon together — that's true love ..♥

And finally, the gochujang pork belly we ordered last — honestly every single dish we ordered was delicious, and it felt great being able to enjoy pork belly this good in Buldang-dong at such a reasonable price!
