I went back to Solsot Sangam Branch, a lunch spot in Sangam I visit often. I usually gravitate toward easy-on-the-stomach, filling Korean food, so I end up at pot rice restaurants a lot — and Solsot keeps pulling me back because it's clean and satisfying!

What we ordered: steak pot rice and freshwater eel pot rice

Every table has a tablet for ordering, so I could take my time browsing the menu and order comfortably. After some deliberating, 🤔

  • 👉 Steak pot rice (₩17,000)
  • 👉 Freshwater eel pot rice (₩25,000)

we ended up ordering the two signature dishes!

Ta-da ✨ After a short wait, a neatly arranged individual tray table came out! The moment the pot lid came off, steam rose and a savory smell hit — my mouth was watering instantly.

First, my pick — the signature steak pot rice! Thick, generously cut slices of steak were packed densely on top of the rice 👍🏻

You pop the pretty egg yolk in the middle, add butter and the special sauce, mix it all together, scoop it into the bowl provided, pour hot broth into the pot, and close the lid!

This special soy sauce is truly the cheat code 🤎 Instead of pouring it all in at once, add it little by little after mixing the rice, or dip into it — it seasons things just right and tastes even better.

Piling the steak with wasabi, jeotgal (salted seafood), and kimchi onto one bite was so good — the juices burst in my mouth .. 🤤🤤 Served neatly as an individual tray, this felt like the perfect setup for a lunch spot, meeting, or gathering in Sangam.

Freshwater eel pot rice, 25,000 won

Next, the freshwater eel pot rice my companion ordered. Glossy, generously seasoned eel piled on top — no fishy taste at all, and the eel was so tender that I was very satisfied with this dish!

Why each pot rice comes with different side dishes

One detail I noticed while eating: ✨ the eel pot rice came with mountain leek (myeongi-namul), pickled ginger, wasabi, and perilla leaves, while the steak pot rice came with kimchi, jeotgal, and pickled chili peppers! Each pot rice is set with sides that suit its character, which makes this a safe choice for an important meal, a Sangam wedding invitation meeting spot, or a gathering 👏🏻👏🏻

The special eel sauce wasn't overly sweet or salty, so it worked well with the rice — piling eel, pickled ginger, shredded perilla leaf, and mountain leek onto the rice, I never got tired of it right to the end! Perfect as a restorative lunch 👍🏻✨

After cleaning the main pot rice, we finished with a savory nurungji sugungnyung (scorched rice tea) ~~ 😳 Emptying a bowl of that left my stomach so comfortable and completely satisfied.

On top of that, the various side dishes served alongside the pot rice! Every detail of the setup showed care, making for a substantial individual tray that works well for office workers' meals — Solsot Sangam Branch was a top choice for Korean food in Sangam-dong.
