Sadang gopchang grill house with Saturday wait: Bareun Hwangso
In short
Bareun Hwangso Gopchang is a beef gopchang (intestine), daechang and makchang grill house in an alley off Exit 10 of Sadang Station in Dongjak, Seoul. Arriving at 5:30pm on a Saturday already meant writing our names on the waitlist, and two servings of assorted gopchang came with free heart and vegetables that filled two people up. Fat-rich gopchang, the house dipping sauce and two cold bottles of Terra made Bareun Hwangso Gopchang the right reward after exams.

This post is about the fresh assorted gopchang (beef intestine) at Bareun Hwangso Gopchang, a Sadang gopchang spot. The weather's gotten pretty cool lately, and it's starting to feel like autumn — and when it gets cool like this there's one thing I suddenly crave. Gopchang (and daechang, makchang, all of it)! So since I'd just finished exams, I went to Sadang to reward myself with gopchang.
Where is Bareun Hwangso Gopchang, and what are its hours?
Bareun Hwangso Gopchang, my pick for the best Sadang gopchang, is in the alley to the left as you walk straight out of Sadang Station Exit 10. Hours are Mon–Sat 16:00–24:00 (last order 23:00), and Sunday 16:00–23:00 (last order 22:00).
It opens in the evening and stays open late, so it's also a great spot for gatherings or work dinners in Sadang.

Come out of Sadang Station Exit 10, walk straight, then turn into the alley on your left and you'll see the Bareun Hwangso Gopchang sign. I think I arrived around 5:30, and there were already a lot of people!

How long is the Saturday 5:30pm wait?
There was a huge wait at Bareun Hwangso Gopchang! I did come on a Saturday, but I was surprised the wait was already this long before 6pm. Luckily there was only one group ahead of me — I wrote my name down and stepped out for a bit, and by the time I came back four more groups had shown up.

Apparently draft beer just launched, and they've added spicy chicken thick noodles too. I can't handle spice so I wasn't interested in that, but the draft beer definitely caught my eye.
What is the room like inside Bareun Hwangso Gopchang?

They called to say a table opened up, so I rushed right over to Bareun Hwangso Gopchang. We got the corner seat, which felt (kind of) cozy. There's a well-known painting hanging on the wall above,

and the place is decorated with soju and beer bottle caps too.

The tissue is mounted on the wall, so it was really convenient to just pull some whenever you needed it. Gopchang splatters a lot of oil, so an apron is a must!
These wet wipes seem to be trending lately. Hope everyone's doing well...!
Bareun Hwangso Gopchang menu and prices

Bareun Hwangso Gopchang, my Sadang gopchang recommendation, has an assorted gopchang platter that lets you enjoy gopchang, daechang, and makchang all at once! And heart and vegetables come free with it, so how could you not order it? There are also individual add-on cuts — gopchang, daechang, makchang, heart and more — so you can order separately instead of getting the assorted set if you'd rather.

There's alcohol and drinks too! You need to ask separately for kimchi, garlic, or wasabi.

This is about the health benefits of Korean beef gopchang — reading stuff like this while waiting for the food to arrive is basically standard practice, right? Reading it very diligently...

Side dishes and the house dipping sauce
First, the perilla leaves came out, and they were genuinely delicious!

The weather was so nice I had no choice but to order beer... maybe because it'd been a while, but it was so refreshing and delicious. I finished a whole glass in two sips.

This bean sprout fish cake soup comes as a default side — it was a little spicy but tasty.

Chives came out too, and they were quite spicy... I can't handle spice, so I gave up on those.

There's a house sauce too, and it was really good. Whether it was gopchang, daechang, or makchang, everything tasted great dipped in it...

There's Wi-Fi too, and they kindly show photos of each cut so you know what you're eating. Honestly without that I'd have just eaten everything without knowing what was what.
How each cut of the assorted gopchang tasted
After all that waiting, the assorted gopchang finally arrived!! Since this is my Sadang gopchang recommendation, it looked amazing too.

First up, the heart. Ugh... so good. I'm not usually a huge fan of heart, but this was genuinely delicious!

And then daechang... it's basically just a lump of fat if you think about it, but what can I do when that fat tastes this good... you just have to eat it... The pieces were big too, which I loved.

This is the gopchang at Bareun Hwangso Gopchang! Gopchang is my favorite, and this one was packed with fat inside, which I loved. Can you see it? It was so full inside, it was amazing.

One piece of gopchang alone just isn't enough, so you've got to grab two at once and dip them in the sauce! Definitely dip it in the sauce — it's so good.

Tried mixing and matching different pieces too. Took this photo just because everything looked so cozy grouped together on the grill...

The assorted gopchang at Bareun Hwangso Gopchang was so good that one bottle just wasn't enough, so I ordered another. It was a bit of a shame they only had Terra, but I love Terra so it was fine by me!

We were eating so fast we polished off everything.
Are two servings enough to fill up two people?

Two of us went to Bareun Hwangso Gopchang and even just two servings left us completely full. On top of that, the staff were kind and the food was so tasty that it was the perfect reward after finishing exams! If you love gopchang, you have to try Bareun Hwangso Gopchang in Sadang!
