Braised pollack set for two at a Gapyeong Korean restaurant: Jingogip

In short

Jingogip Donghae Dongtaetang & Kodari Jorim, Gapyeong Seorak branch is a Korean restaurant on Yumyeong-ro in Seorak-myeon, Gapyeong, Gyeonggi, known for dongtaetang (pollack stew) and kodari jorim (braised semi-dried pollack). After checking out of a nearby campsite, the writer arrived for an early lunch and ordered the lunch-only kodari jorim set for two, which came as one big platter with two whole kodari plus bean sprouts, rice cake and braised radish. For anyone in Gapyeong who wants something other than dakgalbi, the kodari jorim set at Jingogip is a filling alternative.

After checking out of the campsite, we stopped by this restaurant in Seorak-myeon, Gapyeong. The name is quite a mouthful, but they serve everything from dongtaetang (pollack stew) to kodari jorim. Breakfast is available too, so it's worth a visit in the morning as well. We went for lunch.

Spacious parking lot in front of the restaurant

The parking lot was huge, so we parked with plenty of room to spare!

What are the dining room, seating and self-serve banchan bar like?

The interior of Jingogip Donghae Dongtaetang & Kodari Jorim, Gapyeong Seorak branch is really spacious. We visited a bit early for lunch, and customers kept streaming in the whole time — seems like people come here specifically for the refreshing dongtaetang and tasty kodari.

The restroom was clean and tucked in the back.

Menu board for dongtaetang and kodari jorim

Here's the menu. After some deliberation, we ordered the kodari jorim set. It's only sold during lunch hours. Kodari jorim comes in a pretty generous portion, so getting the full set meal is a great call.

Self-serve bar for adding extra side dishes

This is the self-serve bar. You can top up any side dishes you run low on yourself.

Basic side dishes served right after ordering

Once we finished ordering, the side dishes came out. All pretty basic ones, but every single one was delicious. We ended up going back for refills before the main dish even arrived, haha.

What comes in the lunch-only kodari jorim set for two?

The kodari jorim set comes as one full platter with two whole kodari plus bean sprouts, rice cake, and braised radish. It's a lunch-only item, but the portion was substantial.

Full platter of the kodari jorim set with two whole kodari

When the kodari jorim set arrived, my eyes went wide... I wasn't expecting much since it's a lunch-only item, but a whole platter showed up. The portion was seriously huge, haha. Two whole kodari plus bean sprouts, rice cake, and braised radish — the composition was amazing, and I loved it.

A piece of kodari jorim loaded with meat

I picked up a piece of kodari jorim loaded with flesh. Seriously, so much meat on it.

Bean sprouts mixed into the seasoning

First, I mixed the bean sprouts that came with it into the sauce. That's the trick to getting bean sprouts nicely coated in the seasoning.

Close-up of plump kodari flesh

Can you see how plump the flesh is? The kodari jorim was genuinely meaty.

How does the braised kodari sauce taste?

The kodari seasoning at Jingogip Donghae Dongtaetang & Kodari Jorim, Gapyeong Seorak branch is a gochujang (red chili paste) base, slightly sweet and spicy. Wrapping it in the seaweed served alongside makes it even better — the seaweed's clean ocean flavor pairs really well. This kodari sauce is a flavor everyone, young or old, would like. It really suited my taste.

A bite of kodari jorim eaten with rice

We dug in with rice and kodari jorim together. It was so good that both of us just kept shoveling it in, haha!!

Garaetteok rice cake, braised radish and extra rice cake orders

On the left is the rice cake, and on the right is the braised radish. The owner clearly knows their stuff, using garae-tteok (long cylindrical rice cake) here — the chewy rice cake pairs really well with the sauce, haha. If you love rice cake, I'd definitely recommend adding extra — it goes perfectly with the sauce.

Empty kodari jorim plate picked clean to the bones

I picked every last bit of meat off the bones down to the end. Don't just stick to dakgalbi in Gapyeong — go try the delicious kodari jorim and dongtaetang too.

Verdict: kodari jorim instead of dakgalbi in Gapyeong

Came back from a Gapyeong trip having eaten some really good kodari jorim! I wanted something different from the usual in Gapyeong, and the result was total satisfaction. First off, they make the side dishes in-house, and they're so good I refilled them multiple times...

The kodari jorim set we ordered is only sold at lunch, but the portion is huge and the kodari was packed with meat. The sauce was sweet with a hint of spice, so easy to eat. And the rice cake and braised radish that came with it too! Instead of dakgalbi in Gapyeong, why not try the kodari jorim or a refreshing dongtaetang at Jingogip Donghae Dongtaetang & Kodari Jorim, Gapyeong Seorak branch?
