After visiting the Jara Island flower festival in Gapyeong, I got a sweet tooth and headed to a dog-friendly dessert café I could bring Jjanggu to. The interior has real character and the music is hip, so the vibe is genuinely great. All the desserts are made by the owner using good ingredients, so let me tell you about the popular fig cake I tried!

Where is Cafe Imchori?

Cafe Imchori is at 701 Cheonggun-ro, Sang-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea (1F), right on the way to the Garden of Morning Calm in Gapyeong. It's the perfect spot for coffee and a sugar fix before or after touring the botanical garden.

This neighborhood in Sang-myeon, Gapyeong is actually called 'Imchori.' So calling it 'Cafe Imchori' makes it feel like the representative café of the whole area.

Even the entrance has serious atmosphere — properly hip. Snap a photo anywhere without even trying and it looks Instagram-ready. And Cafe Imchori welcomes pets. Thank you so much, owner 🙏

Inside Cafe Imchori: the open-air courtyard and the Ducati

The interior of Cafe Imchori is spacious, with plenty of seats and an open, airy feel. And right in the middle of the café, there's an open-air courtyard seating area.

The ceiling is genuinely open above this area. It's indoors but feels outdoors — a really novel concept, new and kind of magical. There are also baby chairs and cute extra seats, so it's great for bringing kids or coming as a big group for dessert.

One quirky thing about this café: there's an expensive motorcycle parked right inside. It's a Ducati, the Italian luxury motorcycle brand — even a Panigale V4. The owner must be a motorcycle enthusiast?

Suddenly the owner looks so cool because of the motorcycle! Even the counter suddenly looks hip... 🙄

Desserts at Cafe Imchori: house-made slice cakes

True to its reputation as a dessert café, Cafe Imchori has a huge dessert lineup. There were so many delicious-looking slice cakes that I wanted to try them all, but since I've been eating way too many sweets lately, I decided to just pick one.

Every dessert is made in-house, using animal-based cream, and the financiers are made with gourmet butter — that tells you how seriously they take dessert. There's also a vanilla canelé, but it's popular enough that only one was left...

The taste and looks are good enough that friends would genuinely compliment your taste if you gifted these — and sure enough, plenty of people that day were just picking up boxed cakes to take home.

They've also set out tea leaves on display so you can smell them.

How dog-friendly is Cafe Imchori?

In one corner there's a water bowl for pets and a notice about bringing pets indoors. You can really feel the owner's care for pets here.

It was an extremely hot day, but the outdoor view from inside — especially the shadows of leaves swaying gently — was so pretty. I imagine the view would feel just as special on a snowy or rainy day, so I'd love to come back.

Please order one drink per person, and note that outside food is absolutely not allowed — keep it courteous. Coffee options include espresso, americano, and lattes, plus a signature coffee made with a nutty-flavored cream.

How do the fig milk cake and americano taste?

What I ordered at Cafe Imchori: iced americano ₩6,000, decaf iced americano ₩7,000, and fig milk cake ₩8,600.

The fig-topped milk cake looked so pretty and delicious that even though I was tempted by the chocolate cake, I found myself picking this one instead!

First off, the coffee aroma was insane. Like the rich coffee scent went straight up my nose. There was a bit of acidity and a nutty flavor that really stood out.

This is the dessert I picked because of the big fig slice on top! And it's packed with figs layer after layer — how could you not want to eat this? Right? On top of that, the cream is made with milk, so it's genuinely soft, not too sweet, and has a melt-in-the-mouth texture.

When you break off a piece with your fork, the figs are layered in so you get to enjoy fig flavor the whole way through. The sweet, fragrant figs paired so well with the softness of the milk cream that I finished it way too fast — it was almost a shame. I definitely want to come back and try other cake flavors next time 💗
