Where is Gatjidong Busan Jangjeon Branch, and is there parking?

I was looking for a place to eat in Geumjeong-gu and ended up at Gatjidong 🍚 It was right next to Exit 5 of Oncheonjang Station, so easy to find! If you're driving, there's free public parking in the building.

Gatjidong menu: lunch specials, tonkatsu, salmon and rice bowls

I visited in the evening, but they had a lunch special menu too! From tonkatsu to salmon to rice bowls, the menu was really varied. If I'd come at lunch I probably would've gone for the special haha.

Inside Gatjidong and the bar seats for solo diners

The inside is pretty spacious! There are regular tables and also a separate bar area good for solo dining. There were quite a few students when I visited, and I found out why..!

The self-bar at Gatjidong: unlimited rice, soup and broth

You can freely help yourself to side dishes, and as you can see, soup, broth, and even rice are all self-serve!! Places where you can serve yourself rice as much as you want are pretty rare these days... that's probably why so many students come haha. Anyone with a big appetite would love this.

And the soup!! It's also at the self-bar, so I grabbed some and it was thicker and tastier than I expected haha. Making sure to finish the soup before the katsu arrives...

Is Gatjidong a good restaurant to bring kids to?

Gatjidong has kids' forks and spoons ready separately, plus a free kids' service for age 7 and under — furikake, seaweed, and vitamins included! There were quite a few families with kids there. Since the broth and rice are self-serve, mixing rice into broth with seaweed on the side would probably get the little ones eating well too~~

What we ordered at Gatjidong: mixed katsu, sake-don and draft beer

After some deliberation we ordered mixed katsu (₩15,800), sake-don (₩13,800), and Cass draft beer (₩1,900)! The portions at Gatjidong are seriously huge haha. It felt even more generous in person than in the photos!!

Mixed katsu, 15,800 won: cheese katsu packed with cheese

First, the mixed katsu! Several kinds of tonkatsu come together, so it's perfect for anyone who doesn't want to commit to just one. I cut into the cheese katsu and the cheese was really, really packed in there 🧀

There's so much cheese generously stuffed inside the katsu that anyone who loves cheese will enjoy it!

Sake-don, 13,800 won: a generous pile of salmon

And the sake-don 🍣 Eating only tonkatsu can feel a bit heavy, but alternating with salmon and rice made for a nice combo haha. The salmon was piled on generously too, so it made for a satisfying meal. We went as two people and ordered one mixed katsu and one sake-don to share, so the dishes didn't overlap and it worked out great!

Cass draft beer for 1,900 won at Gatjidong

Cass draft beer, ₩1,900 🍺 At that price, there was no way I could not order it haha. A bite of katsu followed by a cold sip of draft beer was just so good haha. You know those days when going to a bar after work feels like too much, but eating dinner at home also feels like too little?! This is the perfect spot for that — a hearty dinner with a draft beer on the side. How about dinner plus a draft after work sometime...! 🍺

Is dinner at Gatjidong worth it? Final verdict

With a varied menu from tonkatsu to salmon to rice bowls, and above all a self-bar where you can freely help yourself to rice, soup, and broth, Gatjidong offered great value! There are solo-dining seats too, so students or anyone eating alone can feel comfortable visiting, and with kids' dishes and free service for age 7 and under, it also seemed like a good spot for families. Personally, I loved the ₩1,900 draft beer, hehe. I think I'll come back on a day I want a hearty dinner with a cold beer 🍺🤍
