A restaurant review after a while! I wanted to share a place I visited yesterday. It'd been a while since my wife and I went out just the two of us for lunch, so we headed to 'Hwangje Sushi' near Ilsan Lake Park.

There are plenty of restaurants around Janghang-dong or Western Dome, but since it was a rare lunch for just the two of us, I cared a lot about both the atmosphere and the spread. Bottom line up front: between the food and the staff's kind service, I felt properly hosted the whole meal.

The big sign on the building's exterior reads that it's been an aged sushi restaurant since 2020. The storefront already has a modern, tidy feel, and stepping inside, the interior and cleanliness were both very well kept.

The moment we sat down, we felt the staff's genuine kindness. From seating to serving, everything was attended to so carefully that we were satisfied right from the start. While I was ladling broth from the self-serve bar, they noticed I hadn't stirred it and saw the clear broth on top, so they offered to ladle it for me instead — that touched me!

The basic banchan (side dishes) we tried before the main dishes arrived were especially tidy and delicious. Feeling how solid the basics were, my expectations for the main sushi naturally grew.

We ordered the VIP sushi set and the salmon platter set. The moment we saw the sushi laid out on the wooden board, we both let out an 'this is truly premium sushi' kind of gasp.

VIP sushi set: it came with a variety of premium fish evenly arranged, and among them the tuna sushi was hands down the standout. The moment it hit my mouth it just melted, with a deep, nutty richness — I was genuinely amazed eating it.

Salmon platter set: we got to try raw salmon and aged salmon, plus smoked and soy-marinated salmon prepared each in a different way. Not a hint of fishy taste, and each one had a distinct texture and flavor — a perfect pick for anyone who loves salmon.

Why the pickled vegetables and sides were the highlight

My personal pick for the best 'kick' of this meal was the pickled vegetables served alongside. They cleanly refreshed the palate, which could easily get greasy otherwise, and worked as an excellent palate cleanser so each piece of sushi tasted fresh and new.

On top of that, the grilled fish, crisp outside and tender inside, plus the crunchy jumbo shrimp tempura we got from the event and a warm udon, rounded out a spread hearty enough to rival a full course meal.
