A Three-Generation Kalguksu Restaurant Near Western Dom
Today, I’m introducing the number-one kalguksu spot near Jeongbalsan and Madu Stations in Ilsan, run together by three generations—from grandmother to son to grandchild, haha. It’s not just fermented sauces that grow deeper with time, right? 🤭 This is a place where generations of hand-crafted flavor are properly packed into a steaming bowl of kalguksu (knife-cut noodles): Daejong Kalguksu Ilsan Main Branch (대종칼국수 일산본점) 🍜

A kalguksu favorite for everyone from teens to people in their 80s! We’ve arrived at Daejong Kalguksu Ilsan Main Branch 👋🏻 It’s near Western Dom, so it’s easy to visit on foot. If you’re driving, search “Daejong Kalguksu” in your navigation app! There’s free parking in the building :)

That jaw-dropping cumulative sales number posted right at the entrance... 🫢 We came to add two bowls to it today ><

Even though we visited after 2 p.m. on a weekday, there were still lots of diners! There are floor-seating tables on one side, too 👍🏻 This spot might be nice for anyone visiting with kids, haha.

Right in the middle of the restaurant... a hand-dumpling workshop that totally steals your gaze 👀 I’d heard Daejong Kalguksu’s dumplings were so good—so handmade was the secret after all...?

Ordering Bone Broth and Bibim Kalguksu
Shall we take a look at the menu now? 👀 From Hanwoo beef bone broth, clam, and beef brisket bibim kalguksu to dumpling soup, boiled pork bossam, chive pancake, and handmade dumplings! Even if you come for one bowl of noodles, the lineup makes you want everything 🤭
- Hanwoo beef bone broth kalguksu
- Beef brisket bibim kalguksu
- Jar chive pancake
- 1 bottle of makgeolli
Our writer picked the Hanwoo bone broth, and I picked the beef brisket bibim—🌟 We couldn’t possibly skip the chive pancake side, either...

Daejong Kalguksu is also famous for bossam, you know? Next time, I need to come back for bossam and a shot of soju 💫

Isn’t a great kalguksu restaurant automatically a great kimchi restaurant? This place is no exception, haha. Both the fresh geotjeori kimchi and green onion kimchi were completely my taste... 👍🏻

You can refill any side dishes you run out of at the self-service bar! Plus, they even have tableware just for children—the owner’s sense is perfect... 🤭

Generous Beef Brisket Bibim and Hanwoo Bone Broth Kalguksu
First up, the beef brisket bibim kalguksu is making its entrance ✨ Thick-cut beef brisket and fragrant perilla leaves... you can tell just by looking that the portion is huge, right? It really is insanely big ><

Next, the Hanwoo beef bone broth kalguksu! Richly simmered bone broth filled with tender kalguksu noodles... 🌟

My personal highlight is this jar chive pancake 😍 Ten-kasu-style crunchy tempura bits add an extra-crispy texture, bb.

And just like that, the whole table is set—✨

These colors are making my mouth water... now, let the serious eating begin 😎

Isn’t beef brisket plus bibim noodles the absolute truth?ㅠㅠ With fragrant perilla leaves and the thick, chewy kalguksu texture, it has a charm completely different from ordinary bibim noodles 🌟

Stealing one chopstickful of our writer’s bone broth kalguksu, haha.

The broth was wonderfully deep and clean-tasting 👍🏻 It settles your stomach right down... one bowl of this would keep you full all day >ᴗ<

The secret behind Daejong Kalguksu’s flavor 👀 Hanwoo beef bone broth simmered for 14 hours in a cauldron + house-made noodles aged at low temperature for 36 hours.

The Jar Chive Pancake Is a Must
Now it’s time to try the chive pancake—

Everyone, you have to try the jar chive pancake! Seriously, next-level crispinessㅠㅠ

You simply can’t resist makgeolli with this place’s chive pancake... 🌟 Showing off the lethal kalguksu + geotjeori kimchi pairing ✌🏻

Is it even possible for a portion to be this big? hahaha. In the end, they carefully packed up the jar chive pancake... and once we polished off the remaining kalguksu? Today’s meal was satisfying at 200% again ✨
