Goyang Korean BBQ with charcoal-grilled intestines: Chodaechang

In short

Chodaechang Baekseok Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant near Baekseok Station in Goyang, Gyeonggi. We enjoyed grilled daechang, teukyang, Korean beef gopchang, and cold kimchi noodle soup while the staff handled the charcoal grill. Verdict: a great place for a relaxed meat-and-drinks gathering without worrying about the grill.

Yangdaechang table spread at Chodaechang Baekseok Branch

A place to remember when you want a proper platter of yangdaechang (beef tripe and large intestine) and a drink near Baekseok Station! I finally made it there. At Chodaechang Baekseok Branch, we ordered grilled daechang, teukyang, and Korean beef gopchang, then deliciously wrapped things up with refreshing kimchi noodle soup.

The staff grill everything directly over charcoal, which is so convenient—and it means you can eat each cut at its best moment. I was also immediately drawn to the fact that it was selected for the Blue Ribbon Survey for three straight years: 2024, 2025, and 2026! With an atmosphere suited to group visits and easy parking, it is somewhere I would recommend for a Baekseok Station team dinner or a larger gathering in Ilsan, too.

Even before entering, I spotted the large Blue Ribbon sign! It says the restaurant was selected for three consecutive years—2024, 2025, and 2026. Not once, but three years in a row? Anyone who loves yangdaechang would naturally be excited. There was also information about TV-program appearances, which had me curious before the meal even began.

Having tried it myself, I was personally satisfied with both the flavor and the selection to the point that I thought, “There is no need to go to an expensive yangdaechang restaurant.” If you are looking for the best yangdaechang in Ilsan, it may be worth adding to your comparisons.

A lively Korean barbecue setting for group dinners

Group seating inside Chodaechang Baekseok Branch

Inside, it has that lively, unmistakable Korean barbecue restaurant energy! Each table has a substantial ventilation system, and there are seats set up for several people to sit together.

It felt just right for getting together, grilling daechang and gopchang, and having a drink, so it looked like a solid choice for a group dinner. If you need a work dinner or a friends’ gathering near Baekseok Station, it is easy to get to—and the convenient parking is another plus. In Ilsan, where driving around is so common, a restaurant with easy parking matters more than you might think.

The thought behind Chodaechang’s tablecloth

When you visit Chodaechang, one thing to notice before the food is the tablecloth. Do you remember your mother gently covering the table with a cloth before heading out, so the food would not get cold?

Chodaechang says its tablecloth carries the same warmth of a mother’s heart: love and care in welcoming customers. I had assumed it was simply a table covering, but knowing the meaning behind it made it feel especially homey. If you visit, take a photo of the tablecloth before the food arrives~

Ordering daechang, teukyang, and Korean beef gopchang

We carefully picked cuts that each of us liked. The set menus would be great for trying a variety of things, but we wanted to focus on our favorites, so we ordered grilled daechang, teukyang, Korean beef gopchang, and kimchi noodle soup... like that.

Once everything went onto the charcoal grill at once, the visuals were seriously on point. Chodaechang is also worth noting as a restaurant using natural tenderization, and most of all, the staff grill directly over charcoal, so even tricky yangdaechang is easy to enjoy.

Side dishes and sauces for each cut

After ordering, the table was set with side dishes that pair well with the meat. From fresh dressed vegetables to crisp banchan (Korean side dishes) and nutty salad, the selection was great for cutting through the richness of yangdaechang between bites. Yangdaechang tastes very different depending on the sauce, and Chodaechang provides sauces that suit each cut, making it even more enjoyable.

Charcoal grilling done for you

One thing I loved at Chodaechang was the grilling service. Unlike ordinary samgyeopsal, yangdaechang needs careful heat control and timing, but the staff turned and cut it over the charcoal with an expert touch, so there was no chance of getting it wrong. The plump daechang turned beautifully golden, with a glossy surface and charcoal aroma added in—just looking at it made my mouth water!

You do not have to keep staring at the grill while chatting with friends or at a company dinner, which is another reason I would recommend it for group meals.

Sauce pairings for daechang, makchang, and teukyang

  • Grilled daechang → sweet-tangy soy sauce with lemon
  • Grilled makchang → nutty makchang sauce with soybean powder
  • Grilled teukyang → punchy seaweed wasabi with wasabi

Changing sauces to suit each cut made the flavors much more varied than simply dipping everything in salt. A charcoal-kissed piece of meat dipped in sauce, or topped lightly with seaweed wasabi—one bite and the drinks naturally follow. Haha.

The rich flavor of grilled Korean beef gopchang

As it slowly cooked over charcoal, the outside became springy and savory, while a deep flavor spread from within with every chew—perfect with drinks. When grilling it yourself, you worry about burning it or losing the gop, the rich filling, but the staff watched its condition as they cooked, so all we had to do was eat. That is a bigger advantage than it sounds.

Chewy teukyang and grilled daechang

Teukyang had its distinctive chewy, crisp bite, and its nutty flavor built as I chewed; my mouth was having an absolute party. Teukyang is especially delicious with punchy seaweed wasabi! The sharp wasabi and savory seaweed really brought out its clean flavor.

Daechang grilled over charcoal

The daechang was lightly crisp outside but soft and nutty within—the kind of flavor that makes you think, “Ah, this is why people come for daechang!” I recommend it with the sweet-tangy lemon soy sauce. It freshens up daechang’s deep richness, so I kept reaching for more.

Garlic, mushrooms, peppers, and more can also be grilled alongside the meat, adding another little bit of fun between bites.

Finish with refreshing kimchi noodle soup

A refreshing noodle dish is always the right answer to finish! The kimchi noodle soup came generously filled with noodles in chilled broth, with kimchi, garnishes, and a mountain of yellow egg strips on top, so it looked incredibly appetizing from the start. Once I mixed it well and slurped it up, it felt like the lingering richness of the daechang was completely cleared from my mouth!

Save a piece of meat and eat it with the kimchi noodle soup for another special bite. The saying that there is always room for noodles even when you are full was proven again that day. Haha.

Excellent ice cream after paying

Excellent ice cream dessert at Chodaechang

After a delicious meal, we were about to leave after paying when a surprise dessert was waiting! Handed over by the owner... it was complimentary Excellent ice cream. The blue and yellow wrapping alone brings back happy memories, doesn’t it? One sweet, cool ice cream after rich yangdaechang made for the perfect palate cleanser!

Chodaechang Baekseok Branch was selected by Blue Ribbon for three consecutive years and grills naturally tenderized yangdaechang directly over charcoal, making it easy to enjoy a proper meal without any fuss. The nutty daechang, chewy teukyang, and rich Korean beef gopchang were all satisfying together, then the refreshing kimchi noodle soup made a great finish. Personally, I was satisfied enough to feel there was no need for an expensive yangdaechang restaurant, and I would recommend it as a contender for those looking for the best yangdaechang in Ilsan.

Worth remembering if you want meat and drinks near Baekseok Station, a Korean barbecue restaurant for a comfortable group gathering, or a place with easy parking! Next time, I will have to go with more people and properly tackle the assorted grilled platter, too.
