Wondang bakery café sweet-and-salty pairing in Goyang: Pine Terrace

In short

Pine Terrace is a bakery café in Wondang, Goyang, Gyeonggi. From the display case I picked myeongnan sogeumppang (pollack roe salt bread) for 6,000 won and a milk soft roll for 6,500 won, and had them with a decaf americano and an orange carrot fresh juice. Alternating between the salty pollack roe salt bread and the sweet milk soft roll was the most satisfying part of the visit.

Pine Terrace, a bakery café in Wondang, Goyang

I was looking for a Wondang, Goyang bakery café where the bread is delicious and the coffee is good too, and I ended up visiting Pine Terrace.

Looking over the breads one by one on the display, there were a lot of menu items that were hard to just pass by.

Table with pollack roe salt bread, milk soft roll, and drinks

What we ended up ordering this time was a decaf americano, an orange carrot fresh juice, pollack roe salt bread, and a milk soft roll. The pollack roe salt bread especially looked delicious just from its appearance, so I picked it without much thought — and it turned out really satisfying.

Pine Terrace, a Wondang, Goyang bakery café

Pine Terrace felt like a café better enjoyed together with the bakery rather than just stopping in for a drink.

Pollack roe salt bread, 6,000 won: how is it different from plain salt bread?

Pine Terrace's pollack roe salt bread

The pollack roe salt bread I picked was ₩6,000. The description said it was bread with the salty, sweet-and-salty appeal of pollack roe layered with rich buttery flavor, and after actually eating it, the taste matched the description well.

Salt bread topped with pollack roe sauce and seaweed flakes

The pollack roe sauce and seaweed flakes piled generously on top made it clearly different from a regular salt bread, even just visually. Seeing that salty topping over the glossy bread was enough to bring my appetite right back.

Cross-section of the pollack roe salt bread after one bite

Personally, out of all the bread I had that day, the pollack roe salt bread was the most memorable. The savory, buttery flavor typical of salt bread combined with the salty taste of pollack roe made it much more savory than a plain salt bread. I worried the pollack roe might come with a strong fishy taste or be too salty, but it wasn't overwhelming at all, and it balanced really well with the bread. If you prefer savory, salty bread over sweet dessert bread, I'd recommend giving this one a try at Pine Terrace.

Milk soft roll, 6,500 won: taste and size

Pine Terrace's milk soft roll

The milk soft roll we picked together was ₩6,500. True to its name, it's the type of bread that's fluffy and moist on the outside with soft cream inside, and it had a completely different appeal from the pollack roe salt bread.

Cream-filled inside of the milk soft roll

From the outside it looks like a simple roll, but with one bite you get soft bread along with sweet, savory cream together. If the pollack roe salt bread is salty and savory, the milk soft roll is soft and sweet, making it great as a dessert! That's why ordering the two together worked out really well. Taking a bite of the pollack roe salt bread and then the milk soft roll, back and forth, was a sweet-and-salty combination that never got old.

Table with both breads placed together

It was a decent size too, good for a simple brunch-like snack with coffee, or for two people to order a few breads and share.

Decaf americano and orange carrot fresh juice at Pine Terrace

To go with the bread, we ordered a decaf americano and an orange carrot fresh juice.

A cup of decaf americano

Whenever I go to a café I check first whether there's a decaf option, and it was nice that Pine Terrace let me choose decaf. The americano paired well with sweet or buttery bakery items, and especially after eating cream-filled bread like the milk soft roll, a sip of americano cleaned up the palate nicely.

Orange carrot fresh juice

And something I liked more than expected was the orange carrot fresh juice! It had that refreshing, sweet flavor characteristic of orange, which went well with the bread. When you hear carrot, you might first think of its distinct vegetable smell, but combined with orange it was refreshing and not overwhelming at all. It seems like a great option for people who don't drink coffee, or anyone looking for a refreshing drink to go with bakery items.

Bread and drinks on the table at Pine Terrace

After visiting this time, Pine Terrace felt less like a café you just stop by for a single cup of coffee, and more like a Wondang, Goyang bakery café where you pick out delicious bread and enjoy it leisurely with a drink.

Bakery items and coffee enjoyed at Pine Terrace

With such a wide variety of bakery items, there was real fun in browsing the display and picking out bread, and both the pollack roe salt bread and milk soft roll I tried had distinct personalities that I found satisfying. If you like savory, salty bread, I'd recommend the pollack roe salt bread; if you like soft, sweet cream bread, go for the milk soft roll. Ordering both together and sharing is a really good combination too. Next time I visit, I'd like to try some of the other bakery items I didn't get to this time.

If you're looking for a café for a date in Wondang, Goyang, or a Wondang, Goyang bakery café to visit with family, it might be worth enjoying bread and drinks together at Pine Terrace. If you love bread, you might end up standing in front of the display case debating for quite a while. :)
