My husband and I had a rare day off together, but the weather was so hot and humid that going far felt like too much effort. I wanted somewhere near home to change the mood and eat something delicious, so I searched around for a while and stumbled on a really pretty spot — off we went.

It's a café called Seowon Angil, located in Hapjeong. It's pet-friendly, and you can enjoy great coffee together with brunch.

What the 1st- and 2nd-floor seating is like

Seowon Angil is a genuinely rare sight in Hapjeong — a large café split across two floors. There's so much greenery right from the entrance that it felt like my eyes were being cleansed, and once inside, the interior was beautifully decorated.

With everything from large communal tables to various other seating options, it seemed perfect for group gatherings or meetings.

The seats are spaced out generously so there's no cramped feeling at all — it felt open and airy. The chairs were so comfortable that sitting for a long time wasn't a burden either. The whole place was pure healing, and even the music playing in the store added to the calming vibe, so I felt at ease the moment I walked in. Even coming alone to work, it felt like stepping into a big café on the outskirts of Seoul — instantly relaxing. It's such a great environment for working on a laptop that I have a feeling I'll be coming back often.

Choosing your coffee beans and what we ordered

When I went up to the counter to order, I found out you can choose your coffee beans yourself.

We wanted a nutty, clean flavor, so we went with the Angil beans. That day we ordered the delicious Angil Breakfast, a warm small soup, and an Earl Grey lemon tart for dessert. For drinks we picked a cool iced Americano and a refreshing basil tomato ade. By the way, ordering the Angil Breakfast comes with a nice perk — ₩1,000 off a coffee menu item.

What comes with the Angil Breakfast, and how it tastes

After a short wait, our order arrived, and the moment I saw the Angil Breakfast, I let out a gasp.

The Angil Breakfast's spread was generosity itself.

Nicely browned sausage and bacon, nutty sourdough bread with tangy apple jam,

and fresh salad besides — it was such a hearty, generous spread that just looking at it made me feel full.

Spreading jam on the golden sourdough, topping it with sausage or bacon, and taking a big bite — that's a flavor that fills your whole mouth with happiness.

It was the perfect combination to enjoy as brunch when you're a little hungry. The small soup that came with it was warm and smooth, pairing beautifully with the rest of the brunch.

Basil tomato ade and iced Americano

The coffee and drinks were excellent too — the iced Americano made with the Angil beans had a deep, clean flavor that paired wonderfully with the nutty brunch. And the basil tomato ade — I really think you have to try it.

The moment I took a sip, fragrant basil and sweet-tangy tomato flavor spread through my mouth — so refreshing it felt like it blew away all the stuffiness from the hot, humid weather.

Dessert: the Earl Grey lemon tart

After thoroughly enjoying brunch, we tried the Earl Grey lemon tart we'd been looking forward to — wow, this place nails desserts just as well as brunch. The cream on top of the tart was so smooth and delicious, and the distinctive bitterness of Earl Grey combined perfectly with the tanginess of lemon, keeping it from feeling heavy at all and leaving the palate clean. The balance of tangy and bitter was so good that we savored every last bite.

From brunch to dessert to coffee and drinks, everything was so perfect that my husband and I kept gasping in admiration the whole time we ate.

Inside the café there's also a neatly kept restroom, which was very convenient to use — even the restroom was spotless, which made the whole visit feel pleasant.

With interior this pretty and comfortable and food and drinks this perfect, I wondered why I hadn't found this place sooner — I asked the staff and they said it was a newly opened café. I felt so lucky to have found out now. I've decided I'm definitely coming back every day off from now on.

How parking works at Seowon Angil Hapjeong

Seowon Angil doesn't have a huge amount of on-site parking, so I'd recommend calling ahead before your visit. They said on-site parking fits up to about 3 to 4 cars. Depending on the situation on site, parking might not be available, and since there's no reservation system, it's strictly first-come, first-served. If you need precise information, it's a good idea to call ahead.

If the store's lot is full and you end up using a nearby paid parking lot, no need to worry. Show your parking ticket when ordering and they'll take ₩2,000 off your bill, effectively covering part of your parking cost. That kind of thoughtful, customer-friendly touch left a real impression and I was grateful for it. Operating hours differ slightly on weekdays and weekends, so it's worth checking last order times before you go. On weekdays, drink orders are taken until 19:00 and food orders until 18:30. Weekends run a bit later — both drinks and food are taken until 20:00. Checking the hours and last order time ahead of your visit will make things easier.

We ended up here by chance on a scorching day with my husband, but we came away properly recharged, enjoying delicious brunch, dessert, and cool drinks in a spacious, pleasant space.
