Gangneung roastery café for salted vanilla financier: Coffee Dripper

Traveling around Gangneung with my husband, we stopped by Coffee Dripper, a coffee spot known for its roastery vibe where you can sip great coffee together. Want to come along on a happy date spent over a quirky cone latte and delicious desserts?

Where is Coffee Dripper, and its hours and parking

There's a dedicated parking lot right beside the café, so we could visit without worrying about parking at all — that was a nice plus.

What does the inside of Coffee Dripper feel like?

The inside of Coffee Dripper has wood interiors that feel classy, with bright light pouring in through floor-to-ceiling windows. The tables are spaced generously apart, and lush green plants placed here and there gave it a fresh, breezy feel.

Coffee Dripper's menu and how to order

The menu is organized into Dripper signature menu, drip coffee, espresso coffee, and other drinks. You order directly with staff at the counter, then insert your card into the machine to pay.

The reason I wanted to come to Dripper in the first place was that I fell for the visual of coffee served inside a cone. In the photo only the chocolate cone latte was shown served in a cone, so I worried my husband — who wanted a plain latte, not chocolate — might have to skip the cone. Luckily, it turned out the chocolate cone latte wasn't a chocolate-flavored latte at all; it was just a regular hot latte poured into a chocolate-coated cone.

For desserts, three kinds of financier and three kinds of croffin were on display. We ordered a chocolate croffin and a salted vanilla financier.

Turning around after ordering, I noticed cute cups and plates for sale too — clean white-toned designs that seemed like they'd suit all kinds of homes.

Where are the roasting room, restroom and sink?

Being a proper roastery café, Coffee Dripper has a dedicated roasting room, and across from it are separate men's and women's restrooms. Note that there's no sink inside the restrooms — you'll need to use the shared sink installed centrally outside.

How to eat the cone affogato and chocolate cone latte

After a lap around the café, our buzzer went off and we picked up our order — I got the cone affogato and my husband got the chocolate cone latte, so we'd each have our own chocolate cone to enjoy.

They looked almost too pretty to eat, so we kept snapping photos. Getting to eat desserts this pretty made me feel like coming to Gangneung was worth it!!!

For the affogato, staff told us pouring the coffee straight in could make the cone leak, so they suggested scooping the ice cream with a spoon and dipping it into the espresso instead. Going by color alone, I assumed it was chocolate ice cream, so I was briefly thrown when it tasted like coffee — but the sweet, bitter coffee ice cream paired with the strong espresso was so good. I think if it had been chocolate ice cream, it wouldn't have hit the same way — the coffee ice cream was a genius move!!!

It was fascinating that the chocolate coating on the waffle cone held up without melting even with hot coffee inside. My husband, insisting the chocolate wasn't melting, scraped some off with a spoon to taste — and said it was delicious, haha.

My husband likes strong coffee, so he wanted the latte to taste more intense, and poured the espresso into it. He was satisfied with how much stronger the coffee flavor got. I preferred the ice cream mingling with the milder latte rather than straight espresso — a great choice either way. Teaming up to make an even better combination together felt so satisfying!!!

How do the salted vanilla financier and chocolate croffin taste?

The salted vanilla financier was sweet-and-salty, moist, and on the sweeter side overall, with a strong chocolate aroma and great flavor.

Dipping the financier in the latte mellowed out the sweetness, and the bitterness made it even more delicious.

I also tried dipping it in the ice cream — the coffee-flavored ice cream actually balanced out the sweetness, creating a sophisticated sweet-bitter combo that I really enjoyed.

The chocolate croffin had a satisfying look, packed with soft, sweet cream inside. The savory pastry and chocolate cream worked well together. It wasn't overly sweet, just pleasantly so, and it paired perfectly with the latte for a clean finish!!!

Here's my husband cutely munching on the chocolate cone — the waffle cone was truly crisp and nutty, and the chocolate coating was sweet in a way women would especially love. Thanks to the crisp, nutty waffle cone, even my husband, who doesn't usually like sweets, enjoyed it.

Near the end, the marshmallow between the white chocolate coating turned chewy almost like rice cake, which was fun. The very last bit was the sweetest, so my husband struggled a little with it.

Outdoor seats and photo spots at Coffee Dripper

After finishing our sweet dessert time, we said goodbye to the nice tree by the entrance on our way out.

We also took a lap around the outside of the café. There is seating outside, but without separate tables, so it'd be uncomfortable to eat desserts there — it seems better suited for anyone just having a simple coffee or drink.

There was also a fun stone sculpture shaped like a luxury bag, so I asked my husband to try lifting it. After picking it up a bit, he suddenly started treating it like a weight — a few reps of lifting it up and down and you could probably get a solid arm workout, haha.

There were also outdoor table seats that seem like they'll be popular once the weather cools down, with a pretty mural to admire while sipping coffee. The spot that looks like a campfire area made me wonder if they light a fire there in winter — I'll have to come back and check in winter!!!
