Pyeongtaek brunch kalguksu with freshly boiled pork: Goryeo Mulchong
In short
Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is a newly opened kalguksu (hand-cut noodle) restaurant on Pyeongnam-ro in Bijeon-dong, Pyeongtaek, making its own noodles for clam broth. Walking in right at the 10:30 opening, we ordered the ₩38,000 two-person set: freshly boiled bae-ip yaksun pork, napa cabbage dumplings, clam and mussel kalguksu, and unlimited refills of four-season fried rice. Arriving just after opening means the pork comes straight out of the pot, which makes Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu a good weekend brunch stop.

Heard there was a new self-made clam kalguksu (noodle soup) spot in Bijeon-dong, so I went on the weekend — totally satisfied after eating there ><
Between Pyeongtaek City Hall and Sosabeol Elementary School, right next to the Bijeon 2-dong post office, this brand-new Pyeongtaek kalguksu restaurant is Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu. Groups ⭕️ Reservations ⭕️ Takeout ⭕️

Park in the building, take the elevator down to the 1st floor, and there's the entrance to Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu!
Walking in, the first thing that greets you is the space where they make the kalguksu noodles by hand. They make fresh noodles every single day, so I was already expecting extra chewy, extra delicious noodles!

Inside Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu
Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is neatly laid out with a spacious hall and a private room. The room fits up to 80 people, so it'd be great for a group dinner.

We were the first customers at opening so it was quiet, but it quickly filled up — seems like it's already word-of-mouth famous in the neighborhood :) Kalguksu is the perfect weekend brunch ><

You order from a tablet at your table, and pay at the counter on your way out.

Staff bring out kimchi first. Anything else you need — more kimchi, pickles, aged kimchi — you can just grab from the self-bar.

What comes in the ₩38,000 two-person set
The two-person set is ₩38,000 and comes with 1 serving of kalguksu or goldong-myeon, plus napa cabbage dumplings and bae-ip yaksun boiled pork. The four-season fried rice is unlimited refill, free.

Bae-ip yaksun boiled pork: straight from the pot if you arrive at opening
Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu's bae-ip yaksun boiled pork uses grade-1 Korean pork belly, boiled fresh every day at 10am and 4pm. We went right at the 10:30 opening and got the freshly boiled pork ><

Genuinely soft and springy Korean pork belly 👍🏻
The pork comes with fermented anchovy sauce (myeoljeot) and bossam radish kimchi. There's a little candle under the myeoljeot to keep it warm, so you can dip it warm all the way to the last piece. Truly tender, soft pork belly — goes perfectly with anything ❤️
Napa cabbage dumplings
Made with domestic napa cabbage and kimchi dumpling filling — healthy, made with real care. Steaming hot and freshly steamed, there's just no way this isn't delicious!!

The two-person set comes with 6 napa cabbage dumplings, so it's perfect for two people to split 3 each 😆

Dip the napa cabbage dumpling, packed full of kimchi filling, into the soy sauce that comes with it... totally delicious >< It tastes healthy, and that's exactly what makes it special 👍🏻

Maybe because there's no flour wrapper, eating the dumplings doesn't feel heavy at all — light and mild, and really tasty ><

Is one serving of clam kalguksu enough?
I thought since it's a two-person set but the kalguksu only comes as 1 serving, it might be a small portion... but not at all!! If anything, there's a lot!!! Makes you wonder if this is really just "one serving" — it's so generous!!
Mulchong Kalguksu comes with a soup made from Korean surf clams and mussels, self-made kalguksu noodles, and four-season fried rice.
The clams come already simmered from the kitchen, so you just scoop them straight into your side plate. Thanks to the fresh clams and mussels, the broth is truly, truly refreshing and clean 🩷
The clams are delicious even plain, with their own natural sweetness and depth — but they're also great dipped in the myeoljeot that came with the pork! If you like chogochujang, that's on the self-bar too :)
How to cook the kalguksu at the table: five minutes on the sand timer
Scoop out all the clams first, then put the kalguksu noodles into the clam broth and flip the sand timer — and you're ready to eat kalguksu!

Once the sand timer runs out at 5 minutes, the noodles are perfectly cooked >< While the noodles cook, just keep eating clams. They were well cleaned of sand, so there wasn't a single open-mouthed clam haha. I saved a few clams to enjoy together with the noodles — even better that way 😋
The kimchi they make in-house is also super refreshing and delicious, a perfect match with the kalguksu ❤️
Four-season fried rice with unlimited refills
After finishing the kalguksu, what's next?! Four-season fried rice. It comes as 1 serving by default, but it's unlimited refill! So if you finish it and want more, you can just order more :)

Move the remaining clam broth from the hot pot into an empty bowl (since there might be bits of clam shell left...), then pour it into the pot with the fried rice ingredients, add one ladle of clam broth, mix it all up, and the fried rice is ready to eat!
Ah, with minari (water celery) and seaweed flakes mixed in, plus the clam broth — such a savory, refreshing, umami-packed fried rice ❣️

No matter how full you are, you have to eat the fried rice!!! Fried rice, the Korean dessert ><

Saying I was full while still eating fried rice because it was too good haha. Seriously, every single menu item is delicious and the portions are generous!!!

Coffee and house-made sikhye to finish
There's a coffee machine next to the counter, so dessert is covered too 👍🏻

Write your review and cleanse your palate with a cup of house-made sikhye (sweet rice punch) — perfect!! Since it's homemade, it's not too sweet, which makes it even better ><

The owner and staff were all so kind, and the food was genuinely delicious — a totally satisfying, honest review >< Definitely bringing my parents next time!!
