Pyeongtaek kalguksu with injeolmi in soybean broth: Goryeo Mulchong

In short

Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant on the corner of the Pyeongnam-ro intersection in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. The order was seoritae soybean kalguksu (black soybean noodle soup) and napa cabbage dumplings: the seoritae beans are generously ground into a thick broth with chewy, sweet injeolmi rice cake hidden inside, which paired well with the spicy dumplings. With its own parking lot, Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is an easy soybean noodle meal to reach by car in Pyeongtaek.

Whenever the weather gets hot or I get a bit peckish, there's one kind of food I always crave: a nutty, cool noodle dish. I finally got to visit a place I'd only heard about through word of mouth. The clean interior and excellent food made for a very satisfying meal!

Where is Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu, and is there parking?

Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu sits right at the corner of an intersection on Pyeongnam-ro in Pyeongtaek, so it was really easy to find. It's in a spot anyone could locate without trouble.

Parking is always the biggest concern when driving somewhere, and here the restaurant has its own dedicated parking lot, which made things very convenient. Even nervous new drivers could visit without worry, and that first impression, along with the service that followed, really won me over.

What we ordered: seoritae soybean kalguksu and napa cabbage dumplings

After studying the menu, I decided on the seoritae soybean kalguksu, known as the house specialty, plus napa cabbage dumplings as a side. I'd been craving kongguksu (cold soybean noodle soup) for days, and here it was. Unfortunately goldong-myeon wasn't available to order, which was a bit of a letdown, haha.

Inside Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu: hall and seating

Stepping inside, the first thing that struck me was how pleasant the space felt. The interior was bigger than I expected, with generous spacing between tables and no sense of crowding at all. It looked more than capable of handling family gatherings or larger groups. On top of that, the owner and staff greeted us so warmly right from the entrance that my mood was lifted before the meal even started.

Not long after ordering, the table filled up with food, and the presentation alone was mouthwatering.

How spicy are the napa cabbage dumplings?

We tried the napa cabbage dumplings we'd ordered alongside. The fresh napa cabbage blended nicely with the dumpling skin and filling, giving a really crisp, appealing bite. The filling was seasoned spicy, which paired wonderfully with the mild, nutty seoritae soybean kalguksu. The nuttiness of the noodles and the spiciness of the dumplings complemented each other perfectly, and I enjoyed every last piece without getting tired of it.

Seoritae soybean kalguksu: injeolmi rice cake in the broth

Next, the seoritae soybean kalguksu. The moment I took a sip of the broth, the nuttiness spread through my mouth beautifully. The seoritae was ground in generously, so the broth was thick and rich, with real depth of flavor coming through. The noodles were bouncy and chewy too, blending well with the thick soybean broth rather than feeling separate. What stood out most was the injeolmi (sweet rice cake) hidden in the broth — its distinct sweetness and chewy texture worked in perfect harmony with the nutty soybean soup. Anyone who regularly enjoys kongguksu would fall for this instantly.
