Songtan café in Pyeongtaek: five baked goods at Cafe Pomun

Since I was already out in Pyeongtaek, I stopped by a place in Songtan known for its dessert. I went with half expectation, half curiosity, but it was way tastier than I thought, so I kept reaching for more, haha.

Where is Cafe Pomun, and is there parking?

Cafe Pomun is a standalone café building on a main road at 58-26 Chudam-ro, Icheong-dong, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, South Korea. There's a spacious parking lot behind the café, so I didn't have to worry about parking even though I drove.

The ivy covering the entire building was striking, and the pink-striped awning entrance had a hidden, charming feel. It's on a main road, so it wasn't hard to find, and it stood out even among the cafés in Icheong-dong.

True to Songtan's dessert café reputation, Cafe Pomun spans a standalone 1st and 2nd floor with a separate outdoor terrace area too.

There's a spacious parking area behind the café, so I could come and go comfortably without worrying about parking. Accessibility alone was solid enough to earn a spot on any Songtan café recommendation list :)

Inside Cafe Pomun: first floor, second floor and the DEUL annex

The 1st floor of Cafe Pomun has a wood-toned vintage feel, while the 2nd floor is brighter and warmer with lighting and arched windows. Right next to the main building is an annex made in collaboration with a furniture brand called DEUL.

The 1st floor takes an old space and dresses it up vintage-style in wood tones for a calm, cozy feel 🤎 A faint aroma of coffee beans drifted from behind the counter.

The 2nd floor feels brighter than the 1st, with lighting, props, and arched windows adding extra warmth to the space. Green trees peek through the round windows, and this touch is a low-key mood-booster 🌿 The tables were spaced generously too, making it easy to chat.

Next to the stairs there's a spot with a mirror and a silver kettle styled on top of an old dresser — pure vintage vibes.

Right beside the main building is the annex, made in collaboration with a furniture brand called DEUL. Collaborations like this aren't common even among the cafés in Icheong-dong.

I wanted to go inside the annex too, but it was packed with people, so I couldn't take photos. The wood-toned interior was eye-catching enough to draw passersby's attention, and you could tell every corner of the space had been given careful thought, fitting for a Pyeongtaek dessert spot.

At Cafe Pomun, you choose cakes, madeleines, and financiers from the 1st-floor display case, with financiers starting from ₩3,500. Each item had a name tag with the price listed, which made choosing fun.

True to a Pyeongtaek dessert café, ordering happens on the 1st floor, and the display case had a huge variety of cakes, madeleines, and financiers, each labeled with a price tag — picking was genuinely fun. I thought this place really deserved to be called a Pyeongtaek dessert spot.

We said we'd only get two, but there was such a variety we couldn't stop, haha. The system where staff bring your order to your table was convenient too, and they said they also deliver to the annex, so that's good to know.

How did the salted caramel and salty chocolate financiers taste?

What impressed me most at Cafe Pomun were the salted caramel financier and salty chocolate financier — those two were our top picks. The sweet-salty balance was so good I kept reaching for more.

The americano had a bold roasted aroma up front with a clean finish, while the decaf leaned more toward acidity.

Taking a bite of the salted caramel financier first, the outside was slightly crisp and the inside moist and dense. Salt crystals popped between hits of caramel flavor — this balance was totally my type 🙌

The salty chocolate financier had a thicker chocolate coating than expected, with salt studded on top, making the chocolate's sweetness even more distinct. The chocolate itself was on the bitter side, so I kept reaching for more. These two were our top picks — the definition of sweet and salty 😋

The red bean butter walnut cookie had layers of red bean paste, butter, and walnut, so the nuttiness intensified with each bite, and the yellow cheese financier had a dense, chewy cheese texture with a salty aftertaste that lingered.

The black sesame ganache madeleine had the signature fluffiness of a madeleine with layers of nutty black sesame cream stacked on top. It finished cleanly with a subtle sweetness. True to Songtan's dessert café reputation, the quality of the baked goods here was clearly solid.
