Pyeongtaek Station grill with fried water mandu: Pyeongtaek Jumulleok
In short
Pyeongtaek Jumulleok Pyeongtaek Station Branch is an old-school jumulleok (marinated grilled meat) restaurant near Tongbok Market by Pyeongtaek Station, officially designated a Baengnyeon Gagae (100-Year Store). The order was two servings of gochujang jumulleok with two bowls of rice and fried water mandu (boiled-dumpling style), and the gochujang jumulleok came out sharply spicy, as if made with cheongyang chili powder, so each bite went into a lettuce wrap, while dipping the fried mandu in the shrimp-jang soy sauce proved the best move of the meal. Anyone who cannot handle heat should order the signature soy sauce jumulleok at Pyeongtaek Jumulleok instead.

A century-old lunch spot near Pyeongtaek Station, famous for gochujang jumulleok — Pyeongtaek Jumulleok Pyeongtaek Station Branch (takeout ⭕️ parking ❌️)
I got a recommendation for this century-old jumulleok restaurant near Tongbok Market by Pyeongtaek Station, so after watching Odyssey at a movie theater over the weekend, I stopped by for a delicious jumulleok meal >< Here's the review.

What kind of restaurant is Pyeongtaek Jumulleok Pyeongtaek Station Branch?
A time-honored restaurant that's been featured on all three major Korean broadcast shows — 6 Si Nae Gohyang, Saengsaeng Jeongbo, and Saengbangsong Oneul Jeonyeok — and officially designated a century-old business. The exterior alone gives off a serious "this is a legit restaurant" vibe👍🏻

Inside Pyeongtaek Jumulleok: seating and interior
The owner greeted us warmly as soon as we walked in. The interior gives off that same old-school, been-here-forever vibe! Tables are split on either side of a central corridor.

It was so busy that I could barely take interior photos without getting in other diners' shots ㅠ

You order through a tablet at the table, and pay at the counter on your way out :) Chopsticks, paper cups, and napkins are already on the table; water, wet wipes, and small plates are brought over by staff.

If you order jumulleok, they give you free sesame oil and dried seaweed flakes to make fried rice afterward!!

Two grandmothers at the next table said this place is famous for its haejangguk (hangover soup) and ordered two bowls of hanwoo haejangguk, eating it with real gusto!! I'll have to try the haejangguk next time >< We ordered gochujang jumulleok x2, rice x2, and fried water mandu.
How spicy is the gochujang jumulleok for two?
Gochujang jumulleok, a favorite among younger diners, is ₩16,000 at Pyeongtaek Jumulleok Pyeongtaek Station Branch. The restaurant's original signature menu is actually soy sauce jumulleok, but apparently younger customers order the spicy gochujang version more often! So we went with gochujang jumulleok too.

If you order the gochujang jumulleok, you get one free serving of flat glass noodles, and you can order more for an extra charge!!

The banchan lineup, including shrimp-jang
The banchan (side dishes) here are generous too — Pyeongtaek Jumulleok Pyeongtaek Station Branch is perfect for a filling lunch near Pyeongtaek Station! You get lettuce, chili peppers, garlic, spicy radish salad, stir-fried fish cake, pickled onion, seasoned bean sprouts, and shrimp-jang (soy-marinated shrimp) :)

I can't believe shrimp-jang is a standard side dish here >< so good! It wasn't too salty, just perfectly delicious😍

Rice isn't included with the jumulleok, so you need to order it separately! It's black rice, which made me feel like I was eating at my grandmother's house ><

The flat glass noodles go in from the start and simmer along with everything else — once the meat is cooked through, it's ready to eat!!

The gochujang jumulleok really looks incredible❤️ The flat glass noodles soak up the sauce perfectly and taste amazing ><

It seemed like they used cheongyang chili powder, because it was way spicier than expected, so as a spice-timid eater I wrapped it in lettuce with bean sprouts! Delicious but seriously intense heat❤️ For spice-sensitive eaters, I'd recommend the soy sauce jumulleok instead ><

Why the fried water mandu was the best order of the meal
Since we were hungry, we ordered fried water mandu (dumplings) right from the start, and that turned out to be such a genius move! The gochujang jumulleok was genuinely spicy ㅠㅋㅋㅋ so the two of us spice-timid eaters really enjoyed the fried mandu ㅋㅋ

Dipping the fried mandu into the shrimp-jang soy sauce is a golden combo!!😍 The umami just explodes ><
Why Pyeongtaek Jumulleok is worth a second visit
Between the gochujang jumulleok, one bowl of rice each, and the fried mandu, we had no room left for fried rice, which was a bit of a shame ㅠ Both the jumulleok and the banchan were so good that next time I want to come back for the soy sauce jumulleok!
