Yongsan tteokbokki spot with Shin Ramyun-level spice: Hyeonseonine
In short
Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a bunsik (Korean snack food) restaurant on Yongridan-gil in Yongsan, Seoul, about 7 minutes on foot from Sinyongsan Station. Visiting between 4 and 5pm on a Seoul fireworks festival day meant a 20-minute wait, then a Hyeonseonine Combo Set ordered at medium spice with tteokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cakes), sundae (blood sausage), fritters, mini gimbap and odeng (fish cake), plus draft beer and a Coolpis slushie from the review event. Medium spice at Hyeonseonine sits around Shin Ramyun level, so anyone who likes heat can safely pick hot.

Hey everyone~~! Dolgini here with a restaurant recommendation, bowing politely 🪨✌🏻 There are so many great restaurants these days, but the prices can be wild.. So I want to recommend a tteokbokki spot that nails price, portion, and taste all at once.
Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch: 7 minutes on foot from Sinyongsan Station
Here it is~~!!!! Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch (현선이네 용산본점)! ✨✨✨✨ It took me about 7 minutes on foot from Sinyongsan Station! It's on Yongridan-gil, so it was easy to reach from either Yongsan Station or Sinyongsan Station.
I came to Yongsan that day for the Seoul International Fireworks Festival haha. Yeouido felt too scary crowd-wise.. I actually almost fainted there last year!!! So this time I came to Yongsan Station instead haha.
These days it's really an ocean of information.. everyone shares the best viewing spots in Instagram comments, so tons of reels were popping up before the fireworks festival!
Anyway! I was thinking about what to eat near Yongsan Station or Sinyongsan Station before the fireworks, and tteokbokki came to mind!! Cheap, filling, and delicious — that's basically tteokbokki, right~~ 💖💖💖💖

A 20-minute wait at 4-5pm, then kiosk ordering at the table
At Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch, you order by kiosk once you're seated!!! We visited between 4 and 5pm and the wait was really long.. so popular! Still, we got there a bit early and waited about 20 minutes before getting in haha.
The bright red roof was so pretty, and the yellow thatch(?) behind it was pretty too.

Hyeonseonine Yongsan menu, prices and self-serve bar
Here's the menu and self-serve bar setup!! Let me walk you through it~~
- Hyeonseonine Beer Set ₩32,000
- Hyeonseonine Combo Set ₩23,000
- Hyeonseonine Set ₩23,000
- Sunny Set ₩18,000
- Baby Set ₩13,000
- Butter garlic fries ₩7,500
Ta-dah!!!!!! The fries looked so good~~
- Coca-Cola ₩2,000
- Sprite ₩2,000
- Iced tea (zero) ₩2,000
- Pepsi (zero) ₩2,000
- Sprite (zero) ₩2,000
- Draft beer ₩4,500
There was fry batter at the self-serve bar, and aprons too! Individually packed soy sauce and salt for the sundae and fritters were all there 😙😙😙
How spicy is the medium level at Hyeonseonine?
Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki comes in three spice levels: mild, medium, and hot. We picked the safe medium level!! And it really was pretty manageable..? About the same as Shin Ramyun, or maybe a bit spicier!!! If you want to blow off some stress and can handle Yeoptteok's less-spicy option or more, I think you could go with the hot level haha.
What comes in the Hyeonseonine Combo Set: tteokbokki, sundae, fritters and mini gimbap
From the menu we got the ✅Hyeonseonine Combo Set: ₩26,000, packed with tteokbokki (looked like a 2-person portion) + sundae (blood sausage) + fritters (vegetable, sweet potato, squid, gimmari, mandu, etc.) + mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll, about 7 pieces..?) + 3 pieces of odeng (fish cake) — so generous!!!! 🥹

Thanks to all that.. my stomach nearly burst haha. Adding the draft beer on top made it even tougher haha, and then when the slushie came from the review event, I couldn't resist and just went for it... oh my ~~~

Coolpis slushie and tteokbokki cooked at the table
Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is also known for its instant-style tteokbokki, but not many people seem to order it!! And the slushie comes in Kool-Fizz flavor haha, which really helps cut through the spice — so good!

Just a note: you need the hot plate(?) for the instant-style tteokbokki, and water comes from a self-serve dispenser. Also the restroom is inside! Delivery orders kept pouring in nonstop haha, so popular for real~~!
Watching the fireworks at Yongsan Station after dinner
After finishing this happy tteokbokki feast~~ I went off to happily watch the fireworks~~ 🎉🎊🎆🎇🎉

(View from Exit 3 of Yongsan Station) So pretty, right?!!!!!! You should all check it out from Yongsan Station sometime, it's really lovely!!! Thump-thump.
