There's a place I go back to again and again whenever I want to take the kids out for a hearty, satisfying meal of cutlassfish. It's always packed, so it's a spot I trust every time.

Eating out with kids means checking whether the fish is easy to debone and whether there's something the children will actually eat, not just how good the food tastes. At Seongsan Bada Punggyeong Seongsan Ilchulbong branch, ordering the braised cutlassfish gets you a grilled cutlassfish on the side too, and the delicious seaweed soup is unlimited refill — which makes it a great spot to eat with kids.

Seongsan Bada Punggyeong Jeju Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is at 17 Ilchul-ro 288beon-gil, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, 1st floor, with the restaurant's own parking lot right out front — parking was easy. As a go-to spot for braised cutlassfish near Seongsan Ilchulbong, it's well located whether you're planning a meal after sightseeing around the peak or just want a filling meal with the kids like we did. The view of Seongsan Ilchulbong right from the parking lot is gorgeous too~

Walking toward the entrance, there's a fun sign — hard to walk past a line promising free whole grilled cutlassfish.

We went for a late lunch around 2pm after finishing our morning plans, and even then the place was full of diners. Sit by the window and you can enjoy the ocean view while you eat. This photo was taken on our way out after finishing the meal.

The menu at Seongsan Bada Punggyeong has hot pot, grilled cutlassfish, and bada punggyeong stew.

It's not one dish per person — you just order according to how hungry you are. Restaurants like this are genuinely hard to find these days.

We ordered braised cutlassfish — why did grilled cutlassfish come too?

We ordered the bada punggyeong stew, large-medium. Somehow it feels wrong to come to Jeju and not eat cutlassfish, haha. Even locals feel that way — you need to eat it once in a while to feel properly settled. The kids eat it well too.

Before the food arrived, the basic side dishes were set out. While waiting, we went to scoop the seaweed soup first — this place is famous for its self-serve, unlimited refill seaweed soup.

My eldest said the seaweed soup was so good she'd already eaten half a bowl of rice before the cutlassfish dishes even arrived.

The basic side dishes are seasoned bean sprouts, braised soybeans, kimchi, sautéed mushrooms, sautéed eggplant, and seaweed. You can get more refills anytime if you run low.

Finally, our ordered dish arrives.

We definitely ordered braised cutlassfish, but the grilled cutlassfish comes out first. It's hard to eat both braised and grilled cutlassfish in Jeju at this price point — but Seongsan Bada Punggyeong makes it possible!!

Why braised cutlassfish was easy to eat with two young daughters

Just seaweed soup and grilled cutlassfish is enough for the kids to finish a whole bowl of rice. The staff deboned the fish with practiced skill, which made eating it so much easier.

Now the braised cutlassfish makes its entrance! It comes out still bubbling, and the spicy, fiery-looking sauce looked incredibly appetizing. The kids had the grilled fish, my husband and I had the braised.
