Seogwipo bento catering taste test: sake-don and Jungmun box, Jejju

The weather's getting cooler these days — perfect season for packing a lunch box and heading out for a picnic! I had a group order to place for a gathering, so while looking for a Seogwipo bento specialist, someone recommended Jejju Donghong Branch for its reasonable prices and solid lineup.

Since it was a group order, I figured I should try it myself first before committing ^^ Jejju Donghong Branch already has a reputation among local moms as the go-to spot for group lunch box orders in Seogwipo.

Where is Jejju Donghong Branch, and where do you park?

Jejju Donghong Branch is a lunch box takeout restaurant located in a residential alley in Donghong-dong, Seogwipo. It's easy to find, with a welcoming exterior that leaves you no need to worry about parking.

For a takeout specialist, I was surprised how big and pleasant the store was. There's a well-maintained public parking lot right in front, so parking was never a stress point. Alley parking is also possible ^^

The interior has a clean, hygienic feel.

Walking in, the space was much bigger and cleaner than I expected. I'd assumed a takeout-focused place would be cramped, but the interior was so pleasant I thought it'd be nice to sit and eat there too.

Seeing every corner kept tidy and hygienically managed gave me a lot of confidence in the food prep environment too.

Tables came in a range of setups too — solo seats, two-tops, and group tables. Lots of options, and lots of fun choosing what to order.

Jejju Donghong Branch menu lineup and opening hours

Looking over the Jejju Donghong Branch menu, the lineup was genuinely substantial. From torch-grilled octopus stir-fry to spicy pork rice bowls, there was plenty to choose from depending on taste. Plus you can add sushi in 3-piece increments and various tempura add-ons, so you can build up a base menu with sides for a hearty meal.

They also have a well-rounded premium Seogwipo lunch box lineup, so it looked like a great option for group travelers or workshop teams without having to worry about differing tastes. Hours are daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., so it's fine to swing by for takeout late in the evening too!

What comes in the 48,000 won set for 3-4 people?

They're currently running a promotion, in particular: the 3–4 person set at ₩48,000 comes with raw salmon sashimi, torch-grilled octopus stir-fry, cold yeolmu (young radish) noodle soup, inari udon, raw salmon sushi, and rice with seaweed flakes! It'd be perfect for visiting in the evening with a beer.

How the Seogwipo Jungmun bento and sake-don tasted

Jejju is a Seogwipo bento specialist with great value for money too. First off, I ordered the Seogwipo Jungmun bento and the sake-don.

The bento was packed with a varied lineup — torch-grilled octopus, soy-glazed bulgogi, fried shrimp, and more. There was also house-made yeolmu (young radish) kimchi and pickled radish, so the kimchi never let the side dishes get greasy — it kept everything refreshing.

The seasoning wasn't too strong, so I think even kids would enjoy it.

I was surprised how fresh the salmon was in the sake-don — mixing the salmon and rice together with fresh wasabi was genuinely delicious. You can also add extra salmon to the sake-don, so next time I want to try it with more salmon added.

Honestly, since it's a lunch box specialist, I wasn't expecting much from the salmon dishes, but the quality was quite impressive — I thought I should try the salmon sushi next time.

Is Jejju Donghong Branch worth a group order? The verdict

The Seogwipo Jungmun bento I tried this time had a substantial lineup, and the price was decent given how things cost these days, so I think it'd work well for a group lunch box order. Since you can add sides to the set, next time I definitely want to add the salmon dish to the bento order. There's also a good variety of menu items that kids would like, so I'm planning to bring the kids back next time!
