How to find Sarugak20 from Jeonpo Station Exit 8

Sarugak20 sits on a quiet hillside alley near Exit 8 of Jeonpo Station. It's in the basement directly across from the entrance to the Jeonpo community center, so it wasn't hard to find.

Inside Sarugak20: the basement dining room

There are so many pretty cafés and restaurants in Jeonpo these days, but Sarugak20 had a slightly different vibe. Heading down to the basement, you'll find cute little props scattered around, giving the whole space a warm, snug feeling.

It felt like stepping into a small Japanese home, so it was fun just looking around the space, not just eating the food.

So I thought it could also work well as a Jeonpo lunch spot for anyone who wants a hearty meal in a quiet, warm atmosphere.

What we ordered at Sarugak20 and how fast it arrived

At Sarugak20 we ordered the signature half-and-half curry, beef brisket cream curry, and sweet potato cheese croquette. The food came out quickly after ordering, which was great. We were hungry when we arrived, so the short wait made it even more satisfying.

Half-and-half curry: cream curry vs beef curry

First, the half-and-half curry lets you taste cream curry and beef curry at once. Since you get both in one dish, it's perfect for anyone who can't decide on just one.

I really love Japanese curry, and the cream curry in particular stood out. It was one of the smoothest, lightest cream curries I've had. The usual heaviness of cream curry wasn't strong at all, so it went down smoothly and I kept eating more.

The beef curry had finely diced beef and cheese on top. Compared to the cream curry it was a bit richer and more flavorful, but not too intense. If you like a slightly stronger taste, the beef curry would suit you well.

How the beef brisket cream curry differs from the half-and-half

And the beef brisket cream curry was really delicious too.

The nutty beef brisket paired with the smooth cream curry made a better combination than I expected. The savory richness of the brisket matched the cream curry well, giving it a different appeal from the half-and-half curry.

Personally, I loved both so much it was hard to pick one. If you like a light, smooth taste, I'd recommend the cream curry; if you like something a bit richer and nuttier, go for the beef brisket cream curry.

Sweet potato cheese croquette, the side to add

The sweet potato cheese croquette we ordered as a side is unmissable too.

The outside was fried crisp, and inside was sweet potato and cheese — when we split it open, the cheese stretched right out. The mild sweetness of the potato, the nutty cheese, and the crunchy coating went together really well.

It tasted completely different from the curry alone, so I was glad we ordered it as a side. Cheese lovers especially would enjoy this. Personally, this is something I'd order again on my next visit.

Overall, the food was delicious, but I also loved Sarugak20's cozy atmosphere. It felt like a good place to visit when you want a relaxed meal in a quiet alley rather than a noisy spot. If you're craving Japanese curry in Jeonpo or looking for a different kind of Jeonpo lunch spot, it's worth a visit.

And apparently every menu item can be packed as takeout bento. On days when eating in the restaurant isn't easy, it seems like a good option to take it home and eat comfortably.
