Myeon-mok-dong samgyeopsal with free makjang stew: Daepan Sotddukkeong
In short
Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal is a kimchi samgyeopsal (pork belly grilled on a cauldron lid) restaurant on Dongil-ro in Myeon-mok-dong, Jungnang, Seoul. Arriving with a friend after work on a Friday, the writer waited about 10 minutes, ordered the couple set for two (pork belly, pork neck, grilled cheese and steamed egg) and was served a complimentary Gangwon-do makjang (soybean paste) stew plus fried rice to finish. With a self-serve bar where you grill your own kimchi pancake, Daepan Sotddukkeong feels like a genuine neighborhood meat house.

How long is the Friday night wait at Daepan Sotddukkeong in Myeon-mok-dong?
Today I'm introducing a place in Myeon-mok-dong called Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal! My friend and I found it while trying to decide on dinner after work. We both love meat, so as soon as we saw it we knew this was the one — went straight there haha.

We went on a Friday evening and the place was really packed with customers.

Luckily there were chairs set up outside, so we sat there and waited about 10 minutes before being seated!

Once inside, the place was bigger than I expected, with lots of tables.

Grilling your own kimchi pancake at the self-serve bar
On one side of Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal there's a self-serve bar where you can freely help yourself to whatever you want — loved that!

You can even grill your own kimchi pancake there... amazing.

At our table, the side dishes plus kimchi and bean sprouts were already set up on the pot lid!

Spoons and chopsticks are kept in the drawer, so just pull them out and use them.

What comes in the couple set for two
Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal has a wide menu — from grilled meats to lunch specials to side dishes.

Since there were two of us, we ordered the couple set! The couple set comes with pork belly, pork neck, cheese grill, and steamed egg — great for sharing both meat and sides together.

After we ordered, the staff placed thick cuts of pork belly and pork neck on the pot lid. Once the meat went on, it really felt like a proper spread!

They grilled it carefully so the kimchi seasoning wouldn't burn 👌
I'm obsessed ........

Golden-brown, well-cooked meat with kimchi and bean sprouts 🤤 Both the pork belly and pork neck were juicy, not dry at all, and so delicious ㅠㅠ
Free Gangwon-do makjang stew, steamed egg and fried rice to finish
At Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal, Gangwon-do makjang (soybean paste) stew comes free of charge.

It's hard to believe this stew is complimentary — it was packed generously with tofu and vegetables! Eating a spoonful here and there between bites of meat kept things from feeling greasy, it was just right.

The steamed egg that came with it was so fluffy too, with just the right seasoning — delicious!

Fried rice after meat is an unwritten rule! Even though we were pretty full already, we scraped the plate clean to the last bite hahaha.

On the way out, I noticed they even had yogurt and Febreze ready. I thought it was a nice touch, letting you freshen up right after the meal :)

The two of us deliberated hard... and picked one.

We were going for first place but... (?) we got 5th place and received a drink.
Reservations, parking and pets: what to know before visiting Daepan Sotddukkeong
- It can get busy on Friday or weekend evenings, and reservations are available, so I'd recommend booking ahead!
- Pets are welcome if you have a carrier for small dogs.
- If you're driving, check the parking info beforehand.
- Corkage is not allowed!
- There's group seating and private rental available too, so it looks good for work dinners or gatherings.
Even on a Friday evening, the place was packed with people, which really confirmed it's a well-known neighborhood favorite for meat! Visiting with a friend and sharing everything made it even more delicious, and we left having had a proper, filling dinner for once. If you're looking for a place where you can grill great meat along with kimchi and bean sprouts on a pot lid, I highly recommend this one!
