Konkuk Station Japanese set meal spot, salmon bowl solo lunch: Hekbap
In short
Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch is a Japanese home-style rice bowl restaurant on Neungdong-ro near Konkuk University Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. Dining alone, the writer ordered the salmon rice bowl set (18,900 won) and added mini okonomiyaki, 2 pieces (3,000 won), and fried chicken, 5 pieces (4,900 won), a generous spread that came with thick salmon, udon, and rice cake for dessert. The weather's been so nice lately that I've been wandering around alone even on days with no plans! Today I visited a great spot near Konkuk Station. There's so much to do around Konkuk — escape rooms, shopping, movies. But today I want to introduce Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch, a budget-friendly Konkuk restaurant where the salmon set is genuinely delicious! It's a place I go to when I'm craving Japanese-style ramen or Konkuk pork cutlet. 💛

It's close to Konkuk Station, so it's easy to get to by public transit if you're looking for a good meal near the station. 💗 It's in a university commercial area with lots of students and office workers passing through, so it's great whether you're after a budget-friendly Konkuk restaurant, a Konkuk favorite, or a good spot for solo dining. The interior was pretty spacious and had solo seats well set up, so I'd definitely recommend it for eating alone!

Inside Hekbap: atmosphere and solo seats at Konkuk Station
Going up to the 2nd floor at Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch, the interior is much bigger than it looks from outside, with a wood-tone interior, full-length windows, and bright chandelier lighting for a warm, pleasant atmosphere. It's near the Lotte Department Store, so it's great for shopping after your meal, and also good for a stroll along the Konkuk walking paths. There are plenty of seats facing the windows so solo diners can enjoy their meal naturally — great for solo dining! 👍🏻

The tables have plenty of space between them, and with 2-person, 4-person, and group seating available, couples, friends, and families were all eating comfortably. A great spot for a low-pressure gathering with friends near Konkuk!

How ordering and the self-bar work at Hekbap
Each table at Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch has a tablet PC installed, so you can order contactlessly, which is convenient. There's a huge variety of rice bowls, soba, ramen, and pork cutlet, plus a lot of budget-friendly set menus and sides. Dishes with salmon can often get pricey, but Hekbap delivers on both price and quality. 😋

You can also help yourself to as many side dishes as you like at the self-bar!

What comes with the salmon rice bowl set at 18,900 won?
Salmon rice bowl set (₩18,900)

The salmon rice bowl comes with udon, fried chicken, and dessert rice cake, so it's really generous >< 🧡

Remember this: Hekbap is a salmon spot! The salmon is piled on really thick and it's so delicious... glossy, fresh, and soft — genuinely amazing! 😉👍🏻
Break the egg yolk, mix it lightly into the rice, dip a thick piece of salmon in, then top it with onion and eat — it gets so much nuttier and the umami goes off the charts,,✨

The udon was chewy and delicious. The noodles have great bite, and taking a sip of the udon broth between bites of the salmon bowl is such a great combo. Good stuff 👍🏻

Sides worth adding: mini okonomiyaki and fried chicken
You can't skip okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake) at a Japanese home-style diner, so I added the mini okonomiyaki 2pcs (₩3,000) and fried chicken 5pcs (₩4,900).

It comes piled high with sauce and bonito flakes.

The fried chicken wasn't greasy at all — crispy outside, juicy inside! The sauce that came with it was especially delicious. Make sure to dip generously!

The set also includes a delicious mini rice cake with cheese and honey glaze. The cheese is savory and the honey is sweet 💟 — the food quality at Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch was really high.
Is Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch worth it for solo dining?
With its clean, bright atmosphere, this Konkuk restaurant is great for solo dining, eating with friends, or as a date spot near Konkuk. If you're craving a filling Japanese-style rice bowl, Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch is worth a visit.🤍
