Konkuk Univ. Japanese restaurant for zaru udon with draft beer: Kosi
In short
Kosi Konkuk University Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Gwangjin, Seoul, right by Exit 1 of Konkuk Univ. Station, serving house-made udon and hand-breaded pork katsu. A late dinner at Kosi covered zaru udon on its own, a kama butter udon set with tempura, a single order of katsu and a draft beer, and the chilled udon stayed firm to the last bite while the tempura came out crisp from the fryer. With a long counter-style table for solo diners and wider tables as well, Kosi suits both a date and a meal alone.

Hi everyone~~ It's Songmi~~ Today I'm posting about a udon and katsu restaurant in Gwangjin, near Konkuk Univ. Station.
Kosi
is what I'll be writing about today~

Where is Kosi Konkuk University Branch, and what are its hours?
Kosi Konkuk University Branch is a Japanese restaurant you reach with a short walk after exiting Konkuk Univ. Station through Exit 1. Hours are 11:00–21:00, with a break time from 15:00–17:00 and last order at 20:30. Even the sign looks upscale. The exterior stood out too, with clean wood tones.

A place where you can taste house-made udon and handmade pork katsu! I could already sense the real-deal restaurant vibe before even going in.

Inside Kosi: seats for solo diners and for dates
The inside of Kosi Konkuk University Branch is spacious, with single-row tables perfect for solo dining as well as larger tables. Even though I came for a late dinner, there were tons of customers. I only took photos of the empty tables :) Since it's close to Konkuk Univ. Station, it felt like a great spot for a date too!

Kosi menu and the 4,000 won set upgrade
Kosi Konkuk University Branch offers a wide range of choices from chilled and hot udon to katsu and gyudon (beef rice bowl), and you can upgrade any dish to a set for an extra ₩4,000. So I chose zaru udon (single), kamabata udon + set (tempura), and katsu (single). The menu is well suited for solo dining too. I thought I definitely need to come back for lunch sometime!

Zaru udon at Kosi: served with salad and inari sushi
First up, the zaru udon I was most looking forward to~ It arrived beautifully plated in a pretty bowl, which put me in a good mood.

True to a house-made noodle shop, the visuals were amazing. Just looking at it, you could tell how chewy the noodles would be!
It also came with salad and inari sushi (fried tofu pouch rice), making the meal even more filling. The filling was packed and fluffy, and so tasty. The seasoning was just right too, honestly delicious haha.

Dipped fully in the sauce, it was pure chewiness — the noodles were thick and there was plenty of it. Since it's chilled udon, I could enjoy it deliciously the whole time without it going soft. The food came out beautifully plated too, and being able to taste zaru this good — I loved it~~

Kama butter udon set with tempura and a draft beer
The kamabata (butter udon) I ordered as a set ~

The tempura came out in a nice variety — perilla leaf, sweet pumpkin, shrimp, and sweet potato — so I thought it'd be great to share. Since they fry it fresh right after ordering, the tempura was incredibly crispy.
In the end I added a cold draft beer~~ haha. One sip and all the fatigue from the day just melted away.

True to its name, it comes with butter mixed in along with egg yolk and cheese powder — a combination that's bound to be delicious~~ They mix everything evenly together with the ingredients.

Aahh, the savory butter flavor plus the cheese powder — need I say more~~ The house-made noodles themselves have such a great chewy texture that I feel like they'd pair well with any menu item.

Katsu at Kosi: thick pork and a crisp coating
The udon was super tasty, but the katsu's visuals were also incredible.

Just looking at the breading you could tell it'd be crispy, and most of all, look at the thickness of the meat,, dipped fully in the sauce, it was truly delicious!! The meat was very tender and combined with that crispy texture — I officially recognize this as a katsu place worth visiting near Konkuk Univ. Station~~

Enjoying it with wasabi was delicious too haha. Since the meat was so~ thick, it also worked well as a solid, filling meal :)
Is Kosi Konkuk University Branch worth a visit?
Every single dish I ordered was delicious, making me want to try all the other menu items too — a restaurant with a clean interior that works well both as a date spot and for solo dining. The spacious layout meant I could enjoy the meal without feeling cramped~ I really love noodle dishes in general, so I think I'll definitely come back! Today was another enjoyable evening thanks to delicious food. Next time I'll have to come challenge the donburi (rice bowl) too.
