Heavy layered cut at Wedon Hair, a Gunja Station hair salon in Seoul

I finally cut the ghost-like hair I'd been growing out ever since my wedding photoshoot 👼 Back in February, I think it was — on a friend's recommendation I got a cut at U&Hair in Gunja and the director cut it so beautifully that I looked it up to go back, only to find it had changed its name and location to Wedon Hair!! 😦 It's actually closer to my house now, so that worked out even better for me.. 💛

It's located right above Yunsup, a fruit sando (fruit sandwich) place that's super hot in Gunja right now! I know the area well so I didn't even need to look at a map to find it. It's about a 3–4 minute walk from Gunja Station Exit 3.

How much does a haircut at Wedon Hair Gunja cost?

Bangs cut ₩5,000, women's cut ₩30,000 — cuts have gotten pricey lately, so this seemed relatively affordable 😊 The director's cut is a bit more, but her hands are fast and she really knows what she's doing..

White-toned interior and the mood inside Wedon Hair

It's on the 2nd floor, so you go up the stairs and the entrance is right there on your left. The inside is really clean. At a hair salon you have to sit for a long time during perms or dye jobs, so comfort matters a lot to me — the warm white-tone interior was really easy on the eyes. Stylist Jonghyun was sitting at the counter and greeted me kindly ☺️ He seemed to be a new stylist at Wedon Hair! Since Wedon Hair (formerly U&Hair) is already so well known in the neighborhood, I somehow trusted him right away ☺️

Here's the inside of Wedon Hair!! Clean, right?? The windows are big too so the sunlight came in nice and warm. A real sunlight spot 🤣🤣 It would probably be blinding without the blinds though. The director was busy with another customer, and even though it had been a while since my last visit she greeted me with a smile. She's just so pretty.. 🫶🏻 I noticed it last time too, but her own hairstyle is so pretty I kind of want to copy it.. lol

Before: hair grown out since February for wedding photos

This is my before hair.. lol 😵 It's hair I never cut once after getting a layered cut from the director back in February, when it was still U&Hair! I only found out too late that wedding photo hair looks best with no layers, so I had no choice but to just grow it out endlessly 😭 As soon as I sat down they gave me a soft pillow. It looked brand new — clean and fluffy, which made me happy.

They took a photo and it really does look messy 😅 The ends were split and I have a lot of hair to begin with, so it was genuinely unmanageable ㅠㅠ Even with a flat iron it never looked good, just bushy.. and the side-bang fringe had grown all the way down to my jaw 🥹 I was counting down the days until I could finally get it cut..

Consultation and cutting the heavy layered cut, 5–7cm off

Before starting the cut, he asked what style I wanted, so I showed him a reference photo I'd saved. I showed him a layered cut that was about 5–7cm shorter than my current length and had a bit of heavy layering (?) 😊 He confirmed the length one more time before starting the cut. He also shaped the side bangs perfectly to jaw length!

I snapped a photo mid-cut and noticed Wedon Hair uses hygienic neck covers 👍🏻👍🏻 That's something that could feel a bit gross from a customer's perspective, so I appreciated that they cared about hygiene too. Also they had so many kinds of flat irons and curling irons.. !! It felt like they could create literally any style you want ☺️☺️ I'd never seen a salon with this many irons before..

(The mid-cut photo made me look so much like a lion I had to blur it 😅) Stylist Jonghyun seemed calm and meticulous! I used to have this slight bias that male stylists might not nail the styles women actually want.. but these days male stylists are often even more detail-oriented. 👍🏻👍🏻 He talked to me without being overbearing and was kind, which I really appreciated 😊 (perfect for an extreme introvert..) I'd run over sweating to make it there on time and felt bad about it, but he dried off my sweat first before anything else.. lol 👼 He carefully checked that both sides were even in length, and did the C-curl blow-dry skillfully and fast!

What is the shampoo room at Wedon Hair Gunja like?

This photo is the shampoo room 😊 I actually liked that it's set up as an open space rather than a closed-off one! Small, dark rooms tend to feel stuffy to me.. He offered to wash my hair, but I'd already washed it right before coming, and I had somewhere to be after, so I skipped it today 🥹 The director's shampoo last time was so refreshing.. she scrubbed really thoroughly, I loved it. Next time I'll definitely get the shampoo service 🥺

Done!! He even finished it off neatly with a blow-dry 😊 The length was exactly what I wanted, and the layered cut was cut so well — heavy without being too light. Actually, midway through I asked him to thin out more of the volume, but he said if he thinned it more it wouldn't give the heavy layered look I wanted, so he didn't. Glad I listened to Jonghyun.. 😊 If he'd thinned it more, I don't think it would have turned out like this.

My heavy, unmanageable hair turned into this ㅠㅠㅠㅠ It's so light and clean now, I'm super satisfied 🫢✨ I normally use a curling iron for a C-curl anyway, and it should be way easier now that it's lighter. Also after the cut, he brushed the little hair pieces off my forehead super carefully so as not to smudge my makeup.. lol so thoughtful.. a small but genuinely touching moment 👼

Even more clean-looking once I took the gown off. Totally satisfied -!!!! 💛

Next morning: a quick C-curl blow-dry before work

The next morning on my way to work, I just lightly curled it into a C-curl without much effort, and it looked clean and easy to style, which made me even happier. For office workers with no time in the morning, a cut that's hard to style is a real problem.. My friend also told me the style suits me, which made me happy 👼💛
